I have a F430 that I am very happy with that has a factory exhaust on it. However, I am playing with the idea of new CF Airboxes and perhaps an upgraded exhaust. I would like advice on comparing the standard factory exhaust, the Ferrari Sport Performance Exhaust, Tubi, Capristo and FabSpeed.
I just had my car serviced at the dealer and they are having a special on the Performance Exhaust.
Oh and PS - I still have factory headers on it, do I need to change them?

+1 on the S-Line, the best sound out there IMO. Change the headers first though as they are the definite weak spot in the system and if they fail (and they will) it could cause catastrophic damage.

PS -The "Performance" exhaust is probably a Tubi that, from a dealer will be expensive even on sale

When a header fails, don't you just get an exhaust leak in the short term? In the long term it can cause an uneven load, and valv e issues.

On most cars perhaps, but not on a car with a cat built into the header itself. I would suggest you do yourself the favor and search the forums for "headers" "exhaust" and multiple threads will come up - Get educated and make an informed decision.

I'd start with the headers before messing with the muffler.

I may be about to show my lack of knowledge, but I thought just swapping from stock manifolds to headers did not eliminate pre- cats. Is this true? Also, I know even the MK2's fail, but has anyone had headers installed and had them fail? I have MK2 and am trying to decide whether to do an upgrade. I am happy with stock sound.

    Exhaust manifolds = Headers.
Stock headers have pre-cats (cats inside the headers) and prone to failure, even for OEM mk2 headers.
Aftermarket headers don't have any cats in them.

Thanks. Helpful. A supplier on this forum had told me I could do headers and keep the precats, these were separate steps. Seemed wrong but.......What do you do to compensate for lack or precats so no CEL?

I run AP headers with no pre-cats. I got a CEL about 1 month after having them installed, but cleared the code with my hand-held scanner and it has not come back.

The difference in sound having only changed the headers is incredible. Combined with the scary issues surrounding the stock header failure, it seemed prudent to start with the headers.

I've never had any CEL with Fabspeed headers and S-Line exhaust.

Seriously, if you are going to spend even a bit of money on an upgrade to your car, either AP or Fabspeed headers are an economical and sound performance upgrade. Your Mark 2's may not fail and ruin your motor, but they can and has happened to members on this board. $3,500 is small insurance to pay when you consider an engine rebuild,

I may be opening up a can of worms, but isn't the failure of the headers due to the design flaw of the brackets? I'm thinking to change the exhaust along with a Capristo / S-Line style bracket which allows for expansion/contraction while retaining my OEM MKII's. I'm unaware of any MKII's failing when coupled to a Capristo bracket system.

The reason being is I'm hoping to keep overall volume down as I have a Spider and neighbors.

Yes, you are correct and I am also not personally aware of any failures of stock Mark 2's when running Capristo expansion brackets; however I am thinking that there are one or two out there at least.

i think the s line is loud but raspy. Although its high pitched its not a melodius high pitch like the capristo. I just got the capristo racing put on and love it. I don't think anything beats a capristo, just a very nice smooth high pitch. although s line sounds ok, you will prob get what you pay for. I would trust german engineering over chinese.

    I thought the S-Line was a U.S. product?

S-Line is 100% US made product (Colorado) and IMO the Capristo doesn't sound anywhere near as good as the S-Line.

LOL, who said S-Line is made in China?
I'll post some pics later of the shop and behind the scene making the actual exhaust.
And please post some videos of your capristo racing.

Well u need aftermarket headers without pre Cats (best is Capristo but expensive) and then the cheapest option is to keep keep oem muffler and cats and put on a Fuchs (who make Novitec) valves cross over valved tailpipes
