Ambitious...maybe, but sellers always have to test the market and in this case they have plenty of room to retreat. I would have said even $250k was unobtainable a year ago (they were selling for $120k) - so who knows.

A buyer can make an offer of $299k who doesn't know about the auction sale; then can feel he/she is the greatest negotiator in the world if they take it - "I talked them down $100k!" and in the end the seller still has a healthy bottom line.

heck, at $350k I have red/tan beauty that I might even part with.

Surfer dude went out to catch a wave and never came back to claim the car, which was parked on the beach at low tide. End of story.

Any thoughts on what 86 red/crema 1 one owner with 10k miles is worth today? Serviced and no stories, I met the owner, he is now 85 yrs old:)
I see the asking prices but don't know of any actual sales. Im tempted, any thoughts?

This is a $30,000.00 (Flood?) car at most! It can be saved but it will take some money to put it as it should be.

For my quoted price I would take it; EVEN it if it's not an 1985 or 1986 Testarossa.

Honestly, while this car is in terrible shape, it's worth way more than 30k There is no and never was a 30k unicorn Testarossa lol

Sure, I've seen the eBay start bidding at 30k, but never ever saw a Buy it now for 30k ever.

I think, in today's pricing, this is what you get for 60k now.

Look at the rust even on the underside of the hood / front bonnet / front boot / whatever you guys call it... How can water get up on the *underside* of the hood unless it was pretty darn deep. Also, on the dash leather - looks like mold or something got wiped off?

I think it's a flood car and the water level receded and stayed at the rust line on the oil filter for an extended amount of time. With that much moisture, you could get a lot of surface rust on all the steel parts.
I remember in the old days when I was buying a 308, how much rust was on the underside of the engine covers was shocking.

Can we safely assume it has a "salvage" title?

No, clear title! The guy read the carfax to me over the phone. The last time it was registered was 1993, and had 20k miles on it. No record of flood, no wreck. His theory (of course they don't have any records that came with the car) was that the dude who had it (same owner since 1993) blew a belt or something, couldn't afford to fix it, so stored it. He even mentioned Hurricane Sandy at one point as a 'possible' reason for the rust. I do have to say I was surprised by his candor, I appreciated that. Gotta give that to him. He also said that, while the odometer said 24k miles, when you sit in it, the amount of wear says it's much more than that.

Oh also, they're going to have an '88 TR coming to them in the coming weeks as well. Not like this though.

Yes this is typical for an amphibious Testarossa. It's how it eats.

Yep, just got done watching this online. Very nice validation of my input on MonoSpecchio's recent for sale ad of an '85 with very similar mileage (in the 40k mile range IIRC).
