Senna didn't just do "well" though...did he? He was exceptional in both good and bad cars.

 

Only 2 pages for this to turn into a pissing match.

 

LH's car is bringing home the bacon. LH is damned fast at times, but he can't hold a candle to Senna.

 

I like the comparison to Mansell. No one can be in any doubt that Hamilton is fast. Clearly in the top tear of today's fast drivers, but he is not a tactician by any stretch. He's a pure sprinter. Take away the team radio and army of strategists and he would not be nearly as successful. In that one key fact lies, for me, the difference between someone like Hamilton and the true greats.

Hammy is good but he's no AS. He better enjoy the overwhelming advantage his car is providing him with while it lasts.....

Also, being able to mesmerise with drives in conditions others have no hope in, like the euro GP at donnington, where he wasn't even on wet tyres in a downpour and circulated faster than those on the right tyres, in cars as dominant as the merc is today (Prost choked that day). Senna was an absolute tactical genius, and a fantastic racer with a feel for grip that was unassailable. Michael was a great tactician, and had the same feel almost, but he was more robotic and analytical about the approach, what Senna did with his arse on the seat, Michael did with pure mathematics and thematics. Both are a cut above everyone in f1 today by a mile

Yup. Lewis has been immaculate. He has had one distracted race in the last couple seasons. We are witnessing something special. That all being said, this era of F1 isn't all that special. 2017 will be special again.
