I know many people that own cars, but are not internet savvy or want to go to the trouble to set up an ebay account for one item.

I noticed the 74,900 t coupe is gone from the Ferrari of new England website. Anybody hear anything on that one? I'm curious to see if it shows up at another dealer.

Oregon car listed by "Sparkypaint" ... so the car has had electrical and paint work?

Obviously he has already attempted to fix it,
and found it not worth the while.

    That's tooooo bad.

Does anyone know what damage is typically done when a timing belt goes? Apart from the obvious valves/pistons? Do the liners get scratched up? How about con rods? Head damage?

Not known until someone takes a closer look. If the valves are only bent then most likely it'll only need some head work. Broken valves? Then yes, expect the liners, pistons and maybe some rods have incurred a bit of damage. Worse case, the crank as well.

Repair and flip or, at 66,000 miles, rebuild the entire motor and keep the car. QV Coupes are quite rare, especially in blue.

Still, this is a $15k car, max.

I bet they took the head off or looked in the plug hole with a borescope and priced a new head ... given the $30k-on-a-good-day value of the car when repaired, $15K doesn't leave much room for error.

Lesson learned ... don't push an F car with no mtce history until AFTER the major.

I've been following the Mondial market in Belgium since the 2000's and this is the first time that there's a clear increase in prices. Until 1 year ago, you'ld have a QV for 24000 euro and a T for about 28000 (coupes), now you have to pay at least 35000 for a good QV and 40000 for a T. Just saw a grey '87 coupe appearing on the site of Oldtimerfarm.be - also sells your oldtimer or classic car for 55000 euro... The time of buying a QV for 25K is definitely over. Every time I see a Mondial appearing for sale, price is higher than before. Good sign, but I'm keeping my cuties :)

66K, unknown maintenance history and a blown engine?

This is a classic Ferrari purchase horror story.

I think the seller is going to find that it is a $5-8k car for an outright sale, or he could make more if he parted it out. This would be an unfortunate end for a rare Monial.

Even if you bought the car for $15k and managed to do the engine yourself for $5k in "parts," you would still probably have to put another 5-10 in it for other stuff. Considering the belts were let go so long, there are probably many other things that need to be done to bring this car up to driver status.

Sad story and a lesson in what we already know about the risks of driving a newly purchased Mondial home with questionable belts.

I wonder what he paid for the car or if he had a PPI done?

19 of those were 85's. Not sure on the breakdown of 83 and 84.

I think 15K is waaay too much. I think $7k to $10K is about right. There was a Mondial 8 that went on ebay about 2 months ago for $7k - similar to this car in that the engine was out and completely disassembled.

I've seen several QV engines on ebay go for around $10K. So, $7k for the car, $10K for a replacement engine. Car should be worth around $25K (that's what I paid for my fully functional QV Coupe in Jan of this year). Maybe a bit less due to replacement engine?

As for owning a Coupe? They are less popular than the cabs. However, there are some benefits - my AC works great and it keeps the car cool in 97f heat (Dallas Texas area). There's no top to replace, although the sunroof is a pain to keep working.

Finally, the color appears to be Blu Sera Metalic. Which, in my personal opinion, is the best looking color! (full disclosure - my QV coupe is Blu Sera).

I'm going to watch this closely, and maybe make a $5K offer. At worst, I'll have a parts car. At best - I'll have my 27YO (certified mechanic) rebuild it.

I used to think black was the best colour for qv's to tone with the bumpers but I think I like the contrast with sera more. Good choice sid.

First choice for me is a blue cab, 3.2 or t. One day.

$15k is way too much but the market has been crazy lately. Didn't a black coupe sell recently for $19k, without a motor?

Hopefully someone will rescue this car. Too many "ifs" for me (if I had the time for starters).

Here's a chart I put together a couple of years ago.

Wow! I REALLY like this one. Too bad it isn't closer. This one of those that you should probably lay eyes on in person before committing. It could get expensive fast!

Re Blue QV in Austin, I flat out asked the seller if the head was damaged and he has not responded. Ergo, I assume it is. (How else does he know that two valves in each of two cyls are damaged?) Have you priced a head recently?
