You can definitely hear the turbo when inside the car in this video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rMAi6OpsBzw Outside the car it's less noticeable and it sound good, but it has a lower frequency or something less sharp than the 458. I definitely prefer the naturally aspirated sound.
I have to say the 458 sounds a lot better to my ears at least.. actually the F type sounds really good as well... Interesting hearing the Turbo in the 488, thats going to take getting used too
odd man out here. Sounds OK to me. However, the Boxster did sound better. 458 sounded angrier (to me that's better). I predict high # of after market exhaust purchase the next few years. Is Capristo or Novitec a publicly held company?
I agree. Other turbo charged cars sound good too. You just need to fiddle with it. Seems like a good car though
Boxster sounded better, sad. I like the direct comparison to the 458, which the 458 just sounded epic.
The turbo whine inside the cabin is a tragedy, and even more so for a quarter of a million USD, not to mention that pathetic looking engine sad..
The 488 doesn't sound like a Ferrari V8. It's loud, but no quality. Any Subaru or Evo with modified exhaust can produce this kind of loud but no screaming sound.
Looks like we all agree...458 sounds better on the outside and I know my 458 spider sounds better on the inside. No contest.
The engine does look tiny and out of place compared to the previous 3 mid engine V8's (360,430,458) under glass Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
One of the things I like best about the 458 Spider (and the F355 GTS and 360 Spider with Tubis before it) is the sound. And I still say wow every time I see the 458 in the garage!
Without question, plus the engine looks wimpy compared to it's predecessors. Just bought my 458 Spider a few months back and wondered if I should have waited for the 488. After 2 months driving it, I'm so glad I chose the 458.
Well, I thought the 488 sounded surprisingly good as it angrily drove by from a stop...until the 458 went by seconds later. No comparison, 458 wins. Going to be very interested in what aftermarkets can do with the 488 to salvage it for the small % of us core buyers. One day we will most likely upgrade to a 488 or successor. I have a call for my 458 Spider today though
Don't forget the flaps opening at 2,500rpm. that's only 1,500 rpms of sound. just like the Cali t had. after market is the key to this car
Sound is just one aspect of the Ferrari experience. Most of the "the sound sucks" crew I suspect are 458 owners who now have a difficult time accepting the fact that the new girlfriend is faster, better performing in all aspects and IMO, better looking. I went from a 2008 F430 to a 2014 458 and just sold the 458 for a new 488 order ahead of the big time depreciation curve that is no doubt coming. The sound is pretty damn good and certainly miles better than my Daily driver (a 2015 911 TTS).....In two-three years no one will be talking about the 458 except guys needing parts/advise on fixes etc for the problems that always tend to arise in Ferraris after around a decade. Certainly the 458 is built better than those of years past but time will tell......
