Hey, Prompted by Neuro's "go for it" comment on a poll in which we select our 5 best of all time from a list of a dozen or so, here's my initial list of the possible guys; However, before writing the poll itself please post up the name(s) of anyone you feel I've overlooked - There's no reason "my" 14 are the only ones..... In no order; - Ayrton - Michael - JMF - Jimmy - Gilles - Lewis - Black Jack - Alain - Sir Stirling - Sir Jackie - Niki - Fred - Seb - Alberto Anyone else you feel needs to be here? Guess I'll give it 24 hours or so to see who I've forgotten (!) and then start the poll...... Cheers, Ian PS; If you don't know these names, you probably shouldn't be voting!
Coin toss between Jimmy and Schumi for me. Inclined to ''give it to'' Schumacher, surely the one who gave it everything and more. The amount of dedication he had was on a different planet.
Fair enough. You'll then get to choose 3 more to make up your "top 5" once the poll is up. I honestly don't think we're ever going to agree on the order of the top 5, but I suspect there may be a pretty clear "edge" for, say, half a dozen of them. Cheers, Ian
Hang on guys! - Poll in which you can vote for five coming soon! For now, I'm just asking if you believe I've overlooked anyone in the list above. Cheers, Ian
As their time was restricted back then, is Stefan Bellof a great one or just one who could have become great? It´s a question of definition...
If I may interject, if folks could give their first/last names, I think it might be useful and enjoyable for people like me that are relative newbs to F1, to get our Google on and learn more about the earlier ages of the sport. For example, I don't know who... - JMF - Jimmy - Black Jack - Alberto in Ian's post are. Thanks for considering this request, and I look forward to seeing this thread develop...T
Yes & no to both those guys IMO - But I'll add both to the poll. While I "loved" Ronnie, was he really among the top 5 ever? [Guess we're about to find out! ] While Mario maybe won more than anyone else, in more classes, I, personally, think that's why he's considered "great" - Not so much for what he did in F1, but motorsport overall (?) Cheers, Ian
One who could have become great. I kinda want this to be votes for the "legends" of F1, not motorsport in general. If it was the latter, Mario would certainly be there for example. But in F1? I'm not so sure. Cheers, Ian
Sorry man! Having been around it so long I tend to overlook any noobs; - Juan Manuel Fangio - Jim Clark - Jack Brabham - Alberto Ascari
Given the gravity of this poll (tongue in cheek here), I think it warrants using the driver's real names. Code names for some of the oldies is going to be confusing.
Ian, i think you overlooked Nelson....he was good enough f beat NIki in the same car, beat Prost in 83 in evenly matched cars....beat Mansell, and made that overtaking moove over Senna in Hungary.....that alone is enough for me to make it to the poll
Can't say i agree with Belloff, too much to prove, if he's in so should be Ronnie, Mika, Alesi, Ickx.....but again, i believe all of these are far better than Elton.....
Ah only read it now properly! I have 3 more eh... Gilles. 11 seconds in the wet said it all. Prost. Intelligence at it's best. Senna.
