The cover/shield/cooler is useless unless the rear clutch cover is drilled.

I think he may be talking of the pumpkin behind the cover for air flow, that grill at the bottom is stock on all 355's.

    Tim,

Drilling the rear clutch cover directly behind the shield would increase the chance of ingestion of tire boogers into the clutch housing. As it is, we're constantly cleaning out rubber from everywhere they can lodge underneath the car and even in the wheels and brake calipers.

In this video, you can hear the racket they make as I'm driving down the front straight at Lime Rock Park...

Though Tim does not want to make them, would there be any benefit to having this on a street car?

    None what so ever

They work at speed and you need to cut holes in your pumpkin to ventilate it.
It may as I have herd will help overheat the clutch in traffic.
I wont be using one on the street :)

Since someone brought up this thread,I guess I should clarify the options a bit here :).

The very first clutch cooling cover was optioned only on the very earliest 355’s. It wasn’t a “full” cover. You could still drill holes on the sides of the pumpkin for ventilation. Plane jane looking. Bottom half was spray painted black. Super duper rare. I have one.

Ferrari shortly ditched the cover completely as even the second batch of “early” 355’s didn’t have them up until 98 I believe. This cover was bigger and the last picture posted by Tim. It would’ve covered the ventilation holes drilled. Considering it came equipped in a street car, it still most likely worked.

The challenge clutch was most likely designed for extreme racing conditions. It’s smaller and allowed for exposed ventilation holes. This version might have been introduced before the 98 version, since it was equipped in challenge cars from the get-go.
