Not sure if it was mentioned before, but last year was the celebration of 40 years of Porsche Sport Driving School. It was started in 1974 at the time of the introduction of our beloved 3.0 Turbo. The first workshops were held at the Hockenheim Ring in Germany for owners of the then new Turbo - a car that could do with some education as Porsche people thought at the time. I think they were right...

I was at the Hockenheim Ring two days ago for a drive with the 991.2. Not driving myself, but sitting next to Porsche factory test drivers. The car is great, but you don't feel the turbo's at all. Now there ís a change compared to 40 years ago. I do know which car I like most.

That photo screams 70s! That may very well be a first year 924 as well.

Any thoughts on the recent 3.0 Martini Edition guys? I find it very interesting and presumably quite rare, only 3 ever built in RHD format, is that true? Can anyone shed some light on this?

I'm sure Joe will think 75.000 pounds is too much for this one. They're probably all three still around so not rare at all...

Ha! I'm glad someone else sees through some of the bull**** being posted here instead of just Pom Pom shaking. Own a car, talk them up, sell car. Need a car, talk them down. #UsedCarSalesman That will be my last post on the topic as I dont want to take away anything further here.

    Ok another note;

Harvey Weidman dropped off my date matching set of 1975 wheels at the winery today. They looks like they came from the factory. He is the best.

Thank you Vargas for the suggestion.

I am not really a track junky or expert but I want to still use these cars as they were intended and on track is the only safe place ... Sort of.

I never owned a black GT2 but I do own a peculiar 993 GT from 1998 in yellow was just today at a Porsche Club track event with it.
Difficult car in itself on the wet, but easier than the ur-turbo!

Polite conversation should avoid politics, religion, or money....

The turbo Carrera is a fun car to try to master on track. On shorter circuits, heat management of the brakes becomes important, and whoa be the driver who let's boost drop off only to be rediscovered mid-turn. Completely different from driving modern "track" cars that actually do the tricky bits of the driving without driver input. Drive a 930 well on track, and you have accomplished something.

Anytime you see someone whining & b!itching about a contrarian view to their "upwards & onwards only" market view they have been espousing, you know they have ulterior motives.

Look at your less-than-50 posts, almost all dedicated to telling us how many 930s you own, or, that they are the next coming.

And what's this http://www.ferrarichat.com/forum/144035078-post4197.html you trying to buy a car for $115,000? Talk about hypocrisy as in its finest exhibition.

You were only-too-happy to go along when I championed the cause of these cars from relative $30,000 obscurity, but now that the market has gone up too much too fast and dealers are asking too much, I'm simply pointing out the obvious based on a rational educated input borne out by facts, and you see fit to shoot the messenger?

Stop insulting our collective intelligence with your BS, it and your hostility are certainly wasted on me. You jumped onto this thread as a Johnny-Come-Lately as soon as prices spiked, and now you are bent-out-of-shape because your best-laid #carspeculator plans have come to a grinding halt per the market and are looking for someone to blame.

FWIW I was looking for a car for a client, not me, and in fact he has decided to pass altogether, because nothing we encounter fits the bill. I'm just posting here because I can.

Thomasandersen and jcgferrari I know also own 4 930s or so, and they are not bent-out-of shape by my market commentary like you are. There is a reason for that...

This won't be my last post on this topic, I'm sure, I'm happy to leave it alone, but also happy to debate if you'd like to bring it up further as I participate in the market 24/7/365.

    Great topic actually.

This car sold for 81,000 or roughly $123,000, and without knowing exactly what Coys fee structure is, lets assume the buyer paid @ $135,000 all-in.

It was a lovely mostly-original car, and I think it brought what it should have brought, given the auction's venue & accompanying lots with a Porsche-only focus. As some have said, the market does what it does.

Martini-livery cars are rare, and that adds to the specialness of the car. But I don't know if it was "1 of 3", I think that's an exaggeration without any proof whatsoever, and in fact perhaps the car is more accurately described as "one of 3 known" out of what is more likely a handful that were thus-liveried. I'm happy to stand corrected with documentary proof though.

The Martini linkage is extremely important in Porsche's heritage. Martini Racing is sponsored by the Italian company Martini & Rossi, whose sponsorship program began in all the way back 1968/9 with the Porsche 907, and became famous by sponsoring the works Porsche 917 that won the 1971 24 Hours of Le Mans. In 1973 Martini sponsored the Carrera RSR that won the Targa Florio. Then the Martini Porsche cars won Le Mans in 1976 and 1977 with Porsche 936 (the year of this 3.0 930's production). All those victories and more mean the Martini linkage for Porsche is huge!

If you know your history, somebody got a special car for a nice price, that's what we like to see.

I missed this post - Actually, I think it sold for exactly what it should have sold for, as you say: "let markets do what markets do".

It took a little over 3 months Rich. I am honestly surprised at how good they look. They seriously look like brand new, never used, never scuffed wheels. Both front and back.

The image used for this Ad is from a car on page 3 of this thread 4 years ago (2011) http://www.ferrarichat.com/forum/141078053-post59.html

I thought this car remained in the USA, and, its strange that the Ad features just 1 out-of-focus image.

Also, the car is noted as a 1976 (I thought it was a 1977) and its featured here 930 turbo livery pack - Rennlist Discussion Forums where the image captions upon downloading note it as a 1977.

Anyone know this car in the Ad for sure?
