348 engine cover insulation - high temp glue

    Hi. As you can see from the pic, the insulation on the underside of the engine cover is peeling away. I assume this was glued down originally. Does anyone have any recommendations on some high temp glue to use to stick it back ?

    I have used an M3 High Performance Advesive. However, one thing I have noticed is that the foam gets soft over time. The adhesive worked, but it wants to keep the foam part (the shiney part that faces the engine) also closer to the engine cover itself and not cometely flat like it came out of factory. Just keep an eye on it when you re-attach the foam. I hope the above made sence somewhat.

    It will be a different brand in UK vs USA but I used a glue to stick the rubber seals on oven doors.

    Did it a while back and its been fine. Just check on ebay.

    3M makes a couple of spray adhesives that are suitable for a number of automotive uses, including underhood insulation. One is 77 and I think the heavier duty version is called 99. Both can be found at big box home stores and some auto parts stores. I've used both to install complete hood pads and either one will hold up fine in this application.

    The foam, in some cases (like yours, as it appears) degrades to a granular/powdery substance. At that point any adhesive will be ineffective, and quite messy as well. Best to start over. :(

    Took the hood off the car to do it.
    The old stuff had turned to goo.
    Took lots of effort to get all the goo off.

    Used 3M glue and went gold.

    Agreed.. where'd you source it? I got dinged in a concours event because of one fingerprint cut in the insulation.

    i heard it was unobtanium.

    I'm digging the stuff hensleyac used. Not keen on the foil-faced stuff. I haven't found a source for the "plain" foam.
