Hello Gents, Just wanted to give praise to Bob's foam factory and the super service I got from Bob and his son. As you know the foam on the hood will turn into dust after a few years. I found out about a custom foam supplier and called them up. They said the can easily make me a custom piece of foam that is rated for high temperatures. I visited the foam factory at Bob's Foam Factory, Inc. 4055 Pestana Pl Fremont, CA 94538 Foam Supplier Fremont CA, Customized Foam Design Service, Commercial Foam Supplies, Foam Delivery Service, Foam Cutting Service, Foam Rubber Supplier - Bob's Foam Factory, Inc. (510) 657-2420 They were all super nice folks. Showed them my hood and the specs and 10 minutes later - I had my own high quality custom cut piece of foam to replace the old one for only $17! Can't recommend it enough. If you are looking to replace it - they already have the dimensions from my car so you can easily get one and get it shipped anywhere in the world. What kind of glue did you use to glue it onto the hood Paul ? Some other versions of this foam and its purpose: http://www.ferrarichat.com/forum/mondial/389931-foam-above-radiator.html
I just replaced the main part, but what's cool is they will custom cut any kind of foam you need. They are really nice and reasonably priced!
I used the 3M Super 77 spray can...seemed to do the trick! The hardest part was scrapping the old one off - that was a pain and made a mess so had to wash off all the dust/foam
Thanks Paul, That's the adhesive I used too. I went with the A/C foam from Lowes. looks like your option is a better foam type. If mine doesn't hold up I'll do it with this foam.
These were the measurements I got when I did mine. Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login
Thank you...good numbers to have. I was actually referring to the three pieces over the engine. It would be great if they could offer a complete foam "kit" with the piece over the radiator and the engine foam.
So - Bill, Give them (the foam co.) a call - and propose that approach. We already know that a "semi sleeping" market exists. Wake everyone up, and - - - "it's party time" !! Cheers, Hank
From what I can tell - insulate the hood from high temperatures from the radiator? Just a guess though...not really sure!
. The foam blocks the air and forces them to go through the radiator instead of over it. ie. the foam makes the cooling more efficient.
Paul, I called Bob's foam today to order a replacement for '91 t and they couldn't find the measurements for your piece. Since mine is completely gone, any chance you could share the dimensions of your new foam? Much appreciated!
25 1/4" by 4" is the measurement I got. And I emailed the supplier in this thread about 3 days ago and have not heard from them yet. Alden
Very nice Paul! Lost mine somewhere in Italy thanks for the measurements Mike! I'll add one soon again!
super sorry this took so long!! Here it is (Mondial t cab): 25 Inches Wide 3.5 Inches Tall (One thing people I noticed here say is 4 inches tall - I believe that is correct because there is extra space below my foam. ) 1.5 Inches Deep Hope this helps! I would say 25x4x1.5 is correct. Cheers
