Hi to all, I have spent 6 months looking for a part and I can't find it. I am looking for the small panel that screws underneath the passenger side mirror. see circled part in picture below. Not sold independently new, contacted breakers without result. Would like to avoid being forced to purchase a new mirror so if anybody can help that would be very much appreciated ! Many thanks T Image Unavailable, Please Login
3D Printer / Prototype - Once painted you cannot tell the difference. Many engineering and high end machine shops provide this service, Jay Leno has one in his garage for this exact reason! Just an idea? You would have to borrow one for the 3D scan, and away you go....
I was thinking about it too but, I only have the drivers' side and I am not sure the parts are mirror images.
How about 3d printing the whole mirror? If one would place an order for 10 or 25 of these, it might be interesting for some firms. As used ones normally cost like 750-100 usd, a 3d print could be a cheap alternative. Anybody any ideas about the price of a detailed print? I searched on the internet, but most firms will only talk about prices when they have a 3d file delivered to them. Which I have not.
A friend of mine isn't that far from you and has a company that's doing 3D printing. He and I will be getting together to look at the different parts I need for my 348. I would think he could take care of what you need too.
That would be awesome! The little retaining feet broke off mine so I'm guessing I would need to find a complete one or can I just glue on pieces that bring back the original shape?
vjlax18, I am keen on the 3D printing, but I felt the cost may be prohibitive as the initial scan will be costly. I am willing to spend say 200-300 GBP. But if others want to join as they are missing the same part then it may stack up. Question is, what is the price ?
I've had to remove that piece a couple times. It's a fairly simple plastic part and if I were you I'd try and make my own. Borrow a buddies and make a mold.
So that is not really a problem then? A batch of 10 would cost like 250 a piece or less. Compared to used mirror it looks cheap (you will need to find a glass and switch the inner mechanism of course) Sounds like it will be the solution for some hard to find parts in the future.
If you have access to the part from another car, send to Verell at Unobtanium Supply. He will make a mold and cast a new part. Return the borrowed part as sent. Don't know cost but if a repeat item should be reasonable.
If you dont mind waiting a few weeks I will make one for you for nothing. I work with composites and this would only take a few days to do(an hour each day). I go away next week for a week and could do it when I get back. It wont be original but once painted no one will know.
Can we confirm this is for a 348, that's what I would copy from. Or does anyone know if the parts are the same?
The picture shows a 355 mirror, not a 348. As for whether they're the same cover on a 348 and 355, with Ferrari that could go either way! I'm a bit surprised none of the breakers have this cover available as the mirrors tend to break of at the hinge section in accidents, leaving the mirror base section (including this cover) intact on the car.
I just went and looked at my cars and no they are not the same. The 348 cover is a very large section of the underside of the mirror. The 355 just has the small access panel.
