If your 930 is a '77, you can monitor the boost gauge to ensure it is making proper boost, although this wouldn't tell you if you had a compression problem or other problem.

Having said that, I hardly need physiotherapy after driving the 930, it's a nice surge in thrust, but nothing too extreme. If you are used to 8 second drag machines, you won't be as impressed as if you were used to a regular 911 of the period, for instance.

So the boost should be pronounced starting around 3500 RPM, there is turbo lag with these, not much happens but then car comes on boost and you get a woosh sensation, it is possible to have leaking boost or no boost.

Your car sounds like its operating just fine, especially if "the thrust is very very powerful" as you describe.

Having driven 75, 76 & 77 3.0 930s reasonably extensively, I can tell you that they come on the boost gradually as the turbo does not spool up exponentially like some more powerful units you might have experienced in more contemporary cars.

The pleasure of driving a 3.0 930 is that the power delivery is predictable & manageable, to the point where driving the car is truly a pleasure. That said, because the unit is a 3.0 and we are not dealing with monumental power, the lag effect described by some is exaggerated IMO, and you rarely suffer its effects once you learn how to keep the car 'alive'. Sure, you'll see cars impatiently cruising behind you as you move off from the lights before the real power develops, but with a smile on my face I always count 5,4,3,2,1 and then its bye-bye as the boost kicks in.

Its a fun driving experience, enjoy.

As evidenced by the license plate, this is the very same car that sold last week for $135,000 all-in, being flipped for DOUBLE a week later.

I just noticed that the two triangles on my 1975 Turbo heater control panel are fluorescent and glow in the dark. Not sure if this feature continued on 930’s through the 1970s and 1980s but something you can try yourself with a flashlight at night.

I found this picture that I took of this car parked in Monterey on Cannery Row in 2001 or 2002 during car week. I remember leaving my card on the car with a note if they were ever interested in selling. The picture does not do it justice. I still remember the vin if the car ever turns up for sale. The color was like a light blue/light purple combo. Must have been PTS.

Thats it. I remember the mileage was in the 40,000 range. A very unique car. I really like the unusual colors on these cars.

Two very nice cars that show the incredibile span of the turbo carrera abilities ... The orange is all out racing whereas the light blue PTS is very elegant GT.

    Love them.

    Sometimes life smiles your way...

The extraordinary stories doesn’t happen to often, but it happened to me and my father a tuesday early in september, well actually just a few weeks ago.

I got a late evening call from a friend of mine that heard of an early turbo that might be for sale, he called me and told me to get in touch with the owner directly and better immediately.

I called tuesday in the evening late, and spoke to the gentleman, I was praying this would be a 76 and with luck a 930/50 a homologation vehicle, the first 400 with the 930/50 engine are my favorites, but I love any 3.0 turbos.

When on the phone with the owner, he told me the car was a 1975, I couldn’t believe that, but it could also mean a 75 build and 76 model. Besides that, it was a long therm ownership since 1993. My heart was pumping like crazy and I tried to focus, but I couldn’t since all sort of pictures came to my mind during our conversation.

We spoke for a long time and hung up at 11.30 pm, with he promise that in the morning I would have photos of the vehicle in my email.

I couldn’t fall a sleep for several hours. Adding this vehicle to our collection, could be the most important Porsche acquisition, since buying homologation turbo nr. 393 ( early 1976 930/50 ), that we own and drive in the summertime.

I woke up tuesday to find the photos of a 100% original unmolested matching numbers 1975 in my mailbox, and the guy was actually considering to sell.

I talked to my dad about this, and by noon, I where back in contact with the seller and had purchased airline tickets and booked a rental car for the upcoming sunday. There where no time to waste with this, I felt this was a once in a life time opportunity or at least an opportunity that happens once every 10 years.

I arrived sunday at noon after a two hour flight, I saw the vehicle from distance pulling into his driveway and was very excited to find an incredible well maintained vehicle, no rust, no body damage and around 170.000 km and original tartan interior in the incredible color of Silver Z2Z2. The vehicle was an exact copy of the icon, the 1974 Paris auto show turbo, this car represented everything I imagined a 3.0 turbo should be.

The gentlemann was a car and Porsche enthusiast, but wanted to reduced his collection due to retirementplans. I took my time we went around the car for a couple of hours, he took me for a drive, and when we came back we stroke a deal. Cash deposit to secure the vehicle, and an immediate wire the day after for the remaning balance.

Today I got the call that the car was being picked up and we just got these photos of the vehicle on the tow truck.

Next week the car is supposed to be delivered to us, I am very excited about this, and as this is a father and son project, we both feel incredible fortunate to finally own a real 75 turbo, with a vin in the middle of the 284 car production.

The Martini stickered car is a 1976 that was bought by a guy I know here in the Netherlands a few years ago. It's a first paint car and feels and looks like a new car.

    Congratulations!

I'm not going to ask you how much you paid, safe in the knowledge that it was a reasonable price.

    Enjoy

How many 3.0 turbos do you have now?

Congrats, great find. Love the tartan, and silver on a Porsche is always "right".

The installation of the new turn stalk prompted me to check out all the functions of the parking lights and H-4 headlights. I didn’t realize that with the ignition key out, if you depress the left turn stalk to the left turn on position, the left front H-4 parking light turns on (small 5 watt bulbs built into headlights) as well as the rear parking light (left turn stalk up to the right does the same thing for the right side). For people in Europe, this is probably a no brainer but it was new to me. Park your car on the right side of the road on a foggy night and leave your left parking lights on - very cool.

I believe all of my lighting equipment is original from 1975 including the factory H-4’s. Today, while taking off the headlights for detailing, I noticed the mysterious DGM (see photo below) on the glass http://www.ferrarichat.com/forum/142674509-post1647.html. Does anyone know if there is a way to date H-4’s?
