That's not really the point though, is it? We're talking TODAY.....and the result is an overwhelming no, contrary to what the noisy minority would want us to believe. Of course if things change, then things change!
Remember how much loathing and downright hate Fred got on here when driving for Renault? Some called him Alonsohole. And Seb was down and out by many on here who got pretty quiet since the beginning of the year. I bet things would be similar if the poll was done on a MB site, just with reversed polarities
...I still called him a lot of things (wich i wont name in order not to get banned ) when he was driving for Ferrari, in fact a lot more than before!!!
yep. I remember thinking he was brilliant when he was holding off Schumacher lap after lap and never making a mistake. I think he was brilliant in Ferrari, and even though we never see him, i'll be he's still brilliant now I really admire his driving, but I have no idea about him personally, nor do I care?
Sorry but I do not see your point...When you look around over here a lot of people did not like Alonso even when driving for Ferrari and still gave him names...So driving for Ferrari does not change everything like you want to make us believe. I even know of people who were cheering for Ferrari but not for Alonso as driving for Ferrari did not change his character and character was the main point of criticism rather than the driving. So i doubt that all those voting for "no" over here would change that into a "yes" when Hamilton is driving for Ferrrari
By the time Hamilton retires he will be a living legend and you'll here his name included with all the GOATs in history. Deal with it.
We can deal with it alright, but that will never make some people like Hamilton if they don't wish to. Now deal with that
Ha! you have me all wrong... I can care less hour you feel about Hamilton. I just find it funny how his haters get all worked up! I really get a laugh out of you guys...
Some will always dislike a driver for whatever reason, but I think Andreas' point is that if you took a poll asking if Alonso or Seb 'is your favorite driver' before they moved to Ferrari, around 90%+ of F-Chat would have said 'no'. (Honestly, for Alonso I think Andreas may have been his only supporter, that I can recall, prior to his move to the Scuderia. His 'dislike' number may have been higher than Lewis' during his time with McLaren) I know that you're in the minority of those who have always supported Seb, so your answer wouldn't change from his RBR days to Ferrari, but I'm betting most people who like him now would have felt differently 2-3 years ago. It IS a Ferrari site, after all...
I see what you mean but the question is "is Hamilton your favourite current F1 driver?" If he would move to the Scuderia most of the people here would have less problems with him winning race by race because this would actually mean that Ferrari is winning races, that far you are right. But would this necessarily make him their "favorite driver"? I think many over here "made peace" with Alonso when he came to Ferrari but I do not understand how one could be against someone and then all of the sudden you are pro just because he changed horses... Alonso is about the only driver in the field I really do not like for example (not his driving but his appearence, at least the one we see in TV) so when he was at Ferrari I was still hoping Ferrari to win but I would have preferred Massa or Raikkonen to win rather than him so he was still far away from being "my favorite driver" (OK, maybe less than when driving for McLareb/Renault but still).
It's you who got me all wrong. I hate no one, but Hamilton isn't among the drivers I am interested in. You must be pretty young to think the world is only in black and white; it comes in all shades.
I'll give you some - presentation - personality - attitude to the public - relation with their team - reaction to failure - sportmanship - dedication - fairplay - respect for other drivers - comments - interviews - private life - nationality - track incidents - media etc...
Darn it! The ignore feature only works if they're not quoted! However, this quote demands a response, so I guess it's just as well I saw it! I personally don't believe he'll ever attain "living legend" status. It's looking likely he may rank "there or thereabouts" statistically, and that will probably put him top 10. We can't completely ignore results after all. Even if he's *always* been in a top car and prior, top karts of course. [I assume everyone's seen the vid of the resources Jos threw at Max? Lewis had the same kind of support thru Uncle Ron.] He's never known adversity. [Despite his whines to the contrary.] He may, in fact, move up the list some should he show he can perform in an "underdog", as the true greats did. But that's not happened yet. As has been said many times, he's a damn fine jockey, but half the grid would win in his current ride. Plus, there's so many more races these days; Possible to achieve a lot in a shorter career. He *may* make top 10 once he's done, but I don't ever see him top 5. Cheers, Ian
+1, but I believe that Lewis actually had better equipment from uncle Ron than Max was able to get from his name and his father. Can someone point out one of Lewis's legendary drives like Schumacher in Spain in 1996, Senna at Donington in 1993 or Portugal in 1985, or Gilles in Dijon in 1979 or Spain in 1981?
*Glorious* stuff indeed! Gilles was pretty "magical" no matter where he was though; You just *knew* he was special! Cheers, Ian
He's won every Championship he ever competed in since he was a kid, Has beaten every teammate he's ever had with the exception of his one bad year with Button. He's won the WDC with two teams the only driver since Schumi. He was won at least race every season he's been in Formula 1. He's was the youngest Champion prior to Vettel. He dethroned his current 2x WDC teammate when he was a rookie. He's never cut and run from a challenge even when opposition came from management with in the team David Whitmarsh which I'm sure is one of you LOL! He's already a living legend just but how many threads on this site just to say he's not. That was fun Ian ;-)
Well, that's the point of the two threads...... the opinion of the overwhelming majority of people on here is NOT the same as yours. You're entitled to your opinion, of course, but so is everyone else. AND...just for your own edification, if the majority of people on here don't see Lewis as their favourite current driver OR the best current driver, then that doesn't mean they think he's not a great driver or that they hate him. It just means they think others drive better/equal AND they prefer other drivers. Nothing more. I'm sure you won't accept that....but that's reality
I'm completely happy with that every legend living or deceased has their detractors... It really changes nothing. Overall this site has really improved at least no one is saying that Rosberg who is a great driver himself is Hamilton's equal behind the wheel.
That's great.....except I suspect now you're trying to use 'detractor' as a synonym for 'hater'. Are you referring to the absence of the most vocal Hamilton fanbois?? Yes, you're right....there's been a lot of exceptionally interesting talk about Formula 1 lately! Coincidence? I don't think so!
