although the DIN size was a standardization regarding width and height of the radios, there were different ones regarding depth. Some might call it length. Especially with radio cassette players, on which the cassette has to be inserted longitudinally. Or later CD-Radios.
I once had a car, I needed an almost 2" spacer for installation of a late CD-radio, simply because the dashboard wasn't designed for more modern radios.
Given the fact, that on the GT4 the radio is installed in the center console, depth might be an issue.

    Best Regards
    Martin

The GT4 usually came with Blaupunkt CR-4096 radios. A couple of years ago, I converted mine by ditching the tape deck mechanism out for a MP3 circuit board with USB port. I've used it a couple of times already on some longer drives and it's much better quality than tapes...

Thanks. Does anybody have a picture of their GT4 with a Becker Mexico or Grand Prix installed?

The Grand Prix has a second box stacked on top. I know it doesn't fit in the GTB and GTS, I find it hard to believe it would fit the GT4.

Thanks. I didn't realize that. Do you know which Beckers a GT4 would accommodate?

This is my radio in my 75, I believe to be original? Sorry the cars a little dirty, still in storage. Radio is working but my left door speaker has some issues. Hopefully a loose wire. I have not looked into it..

Update: I have a chance to buy a very nice Becker Monza. Does anyone know if this radio will fit the GT4?

    Thanks again.

Renewing this thread.. as one of my next projects is to put a period correct radio in my 75 Dino GT4. Appears the consensus is a Becker Mexico or Europa would have been put in by the dealer - mine was originally sold by Walnut Creek Ferrari (San Francisco) A couple of questions for anyone in the know:
    a) the current radio is standard DIN size. Are the Becker Mexico/Europa DIN sized too?
    b) The online resellers of this older radios show images that imply the radio is attached by multipin cable to a secondary box (amp?). Do these all fit easily under the centre console unit, or any unique issues people who've done this have come across?

    Thanks, Ian

Becker Europa II is a one box unit and you can buy a blue tooth module to connect your portable music source.

This is all very interesting, my Dino has never had a radio in it for the last 14 yrs. Guess I just love the sound if that V8 behind my head? LOL! But I honestly have always wanted an "original " to a US spec 78' car but have never really figured what one that actually is? Even reading all the radio threads here over the years I'm still not really sure what to get. I can say for sure though that the area does seem a bit shallow and without an actual unit of whatever its supposed to be, I have been Leary on buying an high priced "originalish" unit that may not fit?

My understanding has been that cars shipped from the factory with speakers and radio power in place, but no radio. It was the local dealers (or regional distributors) that selected and installed radios or radio/cassette units based on regional standards. That way the factory didn't need to carry inventory of different radios for Europe, North American, and Asia/Pacific requirements.

People have posted photos of the console without radios, but I'm pretty sure they were after the console had been re-covered during a restoration. I have considered doing this since my radio mainly serves as a place for dust collection. Unlike the GTS/GTB cars, though, the GT4 needs more than a covered blank to fill the radio opening.

Can anybody show an original car sans radio? If so, I'm curious to know if the console box underneath the leather skin has a pre-cut radio opening (in which case the leather covering might sag), or if there is a blank under the uncut leather to provide a solid surface.

    Any takers?

One more project finished on my 75 Dino GT4... removed the Blaupunkt Washington 34 with separate amp/equalizer that was mounted under the dash and installed a restored Becker Europa II. Always interesting what one finds when doing these projects... the prior radio installer/owner had run power and grounding all the way from the fuse block, and had metres of speaker and power wires going back and forth... bizarre. Anyway all fixed - connected correctly to the wiring harness and original speaker wires, fuse inserted inline, and all tidied up. I chose the Becker Europa II for several reasons - first the look - i like the style, and second no separate amp needed. Probably will rarely use it, but very pleased with the outcome. (FYI: The 6-button Europa II was manufactured from 1973-1980... so also period correct... though I'm sure a unit with a tape deck was more common I decided I would definitely never use tapes so why have a dust catcher).

I would be happy with just an am/fm radio, no tape deck needed.
