The owner started a thread recently before putting it up for sale in the Challenge section: http://www.ferrarichat.com/forum/challenge-gt-cars/499092-1995-355-challenge.html
Search car listing Just an FYI, I called and spoke to the seller and everything about it seems fishy. I ran a carfax on the vin provided and it came back to a Spider out of Texas(car is in CT).Guy said he bought it 10yrs ago at a Toyota dealership and it shows it was sold last year sometime. Sucks these get in the way of good cars.
And if you know anything about that dealer you'd be very cautious about buying the car without knowing it's history and getting a solid PPI.
I've just looked at cars there in the past and they're just flipping auction cars and the like. They haven't been honest with me on the phone and I've showed up to see junk I'd never buy.
Not surprising..They see what the market will fetch..and just lower it as time goes on even by a good amount..Look what Marshall Goldman did with the Fiorano they had listed it at first at 215K Then before it sold 179,500..Probably still negotiated, but none the less High values for sure..
Do you mean the GTS that's been for sale all summer, the red 1.6k mile GTB, the yellow 4k mile car. Just what sold? Honestly I haven't paid that much attention to MG, but those 3 cars have sat for some time. The GTS was "call for price" for the longest time. More recently listed at $179k, and offered for $175k on ebay a month ago, still around. The red 1.6k mile GTB was also offered on Ebay for $178k a month ago, still around. So I'm just not sure what cars you are referring to. I don't recall what other 355 MG had for sale this summer, or for what prices as they typically don't list them, but these 3 cars are not recent additions to their inventory.
All I can say is keep up with the market..Yellow car they just got!!!..Red 1.6k GTB SOLD..Fiorano SOLD..Only one thats been around a little is the GTS
What are you Talking About!!..FYI they SOLD the 1.6k car..I know its still on their site, but look at recently completed Ebay listing says item was ended 8/25 because no longer available.. The Fiorano They had Was SOLD as well..The only car they have had for a while is the GTS..Yellow car they have not even listed on ebay yet, nor pictures on their site.. The 1998 f355 Spider Red/cream @ Steven Kessler SOLD asking price was 89,999
It's all good. It is never easy to keep tabs on dealers or cars for actual selling prices like real estate closings... Sometimes they play musical chairs. Sometimes deals fall through. Sometimes they sell a car and a bidding war ensues... Bottom line - good cars are always moving with the dance back in forth with buyer and seller. Cars with problems are selling once prices take into account what needs to be fixed or attended to. Most seasoned members here have no reason to hype - up or down - what they know is or is not moving out there. Now - who has a link to post on a car you like for sale? Robb
MG routinely removes cars from his site. He has a stick about his "personal collection" and they go back into that. He and others have routinely asked outrageous prices and when they don't sell in 30,60,90 days they go back into his "personal collection" what other people might call used inventory u can't sell anywhere near the asking price. I recall CNC using that stategy to controversially purchase a 575 on fchat a few months back - it was for his personal collection then it was almost immediately consigned to an auction. If the mkt ever does sharply turn strategies like this will cause lots of damage to many of these dealers.
Ebay say no longer available. But the car (1.6k mile GTB) is still listed on MG's web site, Cars.com and Autotrader.com. So someone want to make a call and find out reality? In either case, I don't find it surprising that an original, low miles car could sell for an inflated price. There are some people for which that would be attractive. The same people though, apparently pass on lower priced cars, or cars with high asks that may have some small issue. What we can say is that there are numerous GTBs around from anywhere form $68k up and very few, even if it is the higher dollar time capsules, that have sold. It kind of says the market is divided. There are, or may be, buyers looking for pristine examples and are more interested in quality than price. The other side of the market is the guy who is just looking for a 355 GTB but doesn't seem willing to pull the trigger at even the lower prices. FWIW here is a list of GTBs listed on Cars.com and/or Autotrader.com as of this morning: Model year Dealer Ask 98 FCI 78k 95 Speed Sport 73k 97 Intersport 97k 95 Chicago Motor Cars 90k 99 Private 70k 95 Private 68k 95 Jeffs 68k 98 MG ? 96 MG ? 96 "Dealer" 109k 95 Competizione 95k 95 Black Horse 85k 97 FCI 88k 95 Private 71k 99 Private 70k 97 J7 Motorsports ? I know of a couple of other not listed.
