What is the easiest way to remove the radiator fans? Anyone serviced one of these?
One of mine is making a lot of noise.

If they're the Lucas fans, they can be serviceable (uses the same brush plate as their windshield wiper motors I think), but you can pick up brand new ones from Jaguar parts supplier XKs Unlimited (from the Series 1 1/2 to 2 E-Type):

Fan motors: LU-78497 - Fan Motor Round Type LU78497/RB

Motor brackets: LU-78547-1 - Motor Bracket Lucas 54702804 Mount Bracket

I forgot to add that the nuts for the bracket studs are inch size, not metric!

Thanks David, Just ordered a new motor from GT Auto in Phoenix a few minutes ago.
One fan motor was really new and silver, the one on the right was dark black, old as the hill looking, and both had the plastic blades.
    Best,
    John

In my post further above in this topic, I list two links to XKS Unlimited Lucas fans. If I remember correctly, they might have brush plates available separately. If not, Try Specialist Vehicle Components in the UK, as they carry a number of Lucas parts...

(I wonder sometimes when I post links to sources of parts, that other people go ahead and purchase that IDENTICAL item at sources that charge nearly four times the amount... Maybe I'm in the wrong line of business... ;) )

I recently had the same problem with a 79 gt4 cooling fan. Opening the fan motor reveals a single ball-bearing at the end of the spindle shaft which was completely dried-out and rusty. Cleaned it out with light penetrating oil or liquid wrench then lub it up. Check the other end as well and also the brushes while in there. Try to attach some pix.
