While I understand it was a team order, it had no bearing on team points. In my estimation it shows Max as a committed racer. He was trying to get Perez for 7th and was not willing to give up that fight until the flag. Was it impetuous, yup...but he is a head strong 17 year old. He will get a slap on the wrist and his stock will go up in the eyes of other team principles....

however what would you have done? Max started from the pit 98 seconds ( that's almost a full lap) behind the Marrusia's. Instead of trowing the towel he raced like a champ. Take a look at his laptimes the first say 10 laps. He equalled Vettel.

Surely he did recieve a big gift by the first safety car outing, abeling him to unlap, but most drivers would have called it a day after such a miserable start.
The complete race he drove his ass off. Outpacing sainz with sometime 2 seconds per lap. If someone (even the teamboss) is ordering you to give away possition after such an adranaline rush, what would have been your response? Regarding of age, I think only a idiot would have done that. I think TR asking him this was the real stupid part of this story

If Sainz indeed felt he could have overtaken Perez, than he also should have been able to overtake Max.

 

Have you never seen Eddie Jordan before? That was one of his more tame outfits.

 

No, you have a completely wrong analysis of this issue.

Sainz could have overtaken Perez, but didn't want the risk to tangle with the other uncooperative Toro Rosso. VerstaPPen should have understood that, but prefered to hamper the team's progress by delaying Sainz instead of letting him through. The team understood that, Sainz understood that, and the public at large too.

Not in the team interest and very selfish in my book, but what goes round comes round, they say.

 

What I find quite odd is that the press was writing articles over articles before the race whether Hamilton would win the race and draw equal in wins with the great Senna. Noone mentioned that Vettel had a good chance to even surpass Senna in wins.

Searching google for F1 news now a couple of hours after the race still no word about this historic victory.

 

It doesn't surprise me that the media are wrong footed on this issue.
They are essentially focussed on Hamilton and miss everything else.

 

You are clearly not in favor of young Max. And you are clearly not very good in data.

So let me write this down in very clear wording. You might be able to grasp it than:

The laptimes of Max were an average 1,5 second faster than Sainz.
Saintz could only catch up in the end because of Perez slow lapping.
Max came from 1,5 lap down to this position, image the rush
Max has so far the record of overtaking others this year. Apparently he pretty capable
Sainz on the other hand has another record: being the most overtaken driver so far this year.

If I add all this I'm pretty convinced Sainz would not have been able to overtake Perez. I think Max simply thought the same. In the end you do not gve up a position because somebody "thinks" he can do better.



Looking at your exact wording:

Sainz could have overtaken Perez: speculating
uncooporative TR: again, speculating
hamper the teams progress: speculating, only when Sainz indeed was able to overtake. otherwise no effect in constructors standing.
...the publc at large...: look around on the different websites, you are part a minority. The general consencus is that it was TR that made a stupid call.

Surely you will have a different opinion and will call me a fanboy. Whatever you make happy
