I do my belts at 4 year intervals; just done last week and interestingly for the first time there was some visual deterioration in the belts. I say interesting since the car has done very few miles since the last change and this just confirms my long-held belief that storage is far more damaging to a car than driving. By the way, can someone please tell me if timing gear pulleys are aluminum or steel for all years?
Yep! There was a 348 just out of shot, and a 360 Challenge, and another 355, and a 328 GTS. Oh, and some old squashed beetle thing, and a little old red thing which I think was a Mini...
There are several good options here. I would have been happy to take it to any of at least three places. But they have the best rep amongst the people in the club, and my experience with them has been first class. Really good guys. I doubt there's a mechanic in SA who's done more 355 engine outs than Mario.
Well, apparently the belts were starting to look a bit ordinary and it was good timing to replace them. Apart from a very rooted alternator bearing and one or two other very minor things, all is in great shape. They had also thoroughly cleaned the engine (looks superb!) and were re-installing it when I popped in late this afternoon. Should be able to pick her up Thursday or Friday. Happy days! I will. Mario showed me my old belts and some new ones straight out of their packaging. The most obvious difference (to my untrained eyes) was colour. Mine looked quite discoloured compared to the new ones.
well, your post was idiotic at best. The underlying tone was clear, and you were completely transparent in meaning....hence the enlightenment, and you're welcome.
