So as some of you know, I am still loving the F355. I LOVE this car. I have never been able to get a car to come unglued - under load, not in a turn, with over 9k RPM in 3rd. It was brief, made me actually sit back and go wow...that was awesome. That is all. cheers
I don't know about snakeeyes but my rev limiter has been retuned to 9200 and I think it is SOOO right.
And then the engine destroys itself and the owner gets the idea that the 355 is a massive problem in the waiting. Limited to 8500 for a reason. The factory been building engines for decades.
It is, I've hit it a few times. There's headroom there on the stock parts, but I don't think you'll be making power past the limiter (without modification) so not much point spinning it there.
My 1995 F355 cuts out at 8750 RPMs. Although I can sometimes see the tachometer go a bit higher (without a change in engine pitch).
Looking at my tach red is at 8500, I am not usually looking at the tach at this point in time. If I glance and see 8000 coming up I shift. The first few months I hit the limiter a few times, but I have no clue where the needle was at that point ..... Just that Oh Sh*t feeling.
this is why I should not post in the morning...for the record i meant to say 8k. Again, the only other car this fun was my 2003 BMW M5, with full Dinan N/A. sorry for any confusion lol
I hope they have a pretty good safety factor built in. I don't take it there often but have. Not this owner or the next i have no secrets of how I drive the car. I know some would worry that they would have to spend 70 grand rebuilding the motor but there are dozens of low mile long blocks up for offer for 10% of that cost. I'll take a weekend and swap them out. apparently you've never been to the limiter, red line is 8500 limiter is 8750 factory.
Absolute no reason under the sun to take it that high..ever. Peak power I think is at 6500. The rest is just noise.
No, stock peak power is 375 @ 8250 then it levels out a tapers off slow. It makes more and more power on the way up, you should try it some time. Mines been dyno tuned and obviously that can change where your peak power is? Apearently they were shooting for more power through the whole curve and a higher peak on mine.
The 355 engine is very similar to a pre-hybrid F1 engine (think V12, V10, V8 era), in that it was designed to develop pretty much all of it's power and torque way up the rev range, to the point where they can actually feel a little disappointing low down the rev range as they feel comparatively (and somewhat surprisingly) flat. If you don't you use all the revs, and you change gear early on, the car can actually feel a bit "gutless" (in fact, "off the line" a 348 can actually feel more powerful initially than a 355 due to developing it's torque a lot further down the rev range). As the revs increase, suddenly the car comes alive and comes into it's own. Change gear up towards the red-line and when the next gear is engaged, you'll be in a much better part of the power/torque curve to continue your progress. Change up too early and the car will feel a bit, dare I say: ordinary! It's very much an Italian engine thing - They love engines that you have to rev the nuts off to get the best out of them, from the lowliest of FIAT's to the highest Ferrari (even a LaFerrari would feel [comparatively] flat low down the rev range if it did not have the electric hybrid technology to add a bit of low down torque). It's exactly what you'd expect from such a fiery, shouty Country that is all about style, noise and drama!
This sure describes my car. Maybe even more so then a stock tune. A previous owner did these things to the car and I'm not sure what all was done or what they were going for, but if you're on it hard in first gear it doesn't pull terribly hard off the line then at about 4500-5000rpm it feels like turbos just spooled up and it rockets you forward. I honestly usually shift around redline (8500) and it stays right in the power. I found my rev limiter the first time at the drag stip and can't think of any time off the track I've ran it that far. But a few times on the track.
What do you think the "Eyetalians" say about your cloudy little island? You don't even have 'Top Gear' anymore.
9000 RPM sounds great, right up until something breaks. So if you love the car, consider shifting before 8500 and the Rev limiter kicking in. Breaking the car isn't really using it. Sent from my SM-G920P using Tapatalk
