wow
Thank you for letting us follow along through all the photos. Your technical and organizational skills are remarkable.
They show up for me...not sure why they are not for you. You really do need to find out because they are some amazing pictures. I can't wait to see this beauty in person.
(1) Life is not life at all without a few twists and turns. Today was see the Ref at the CA Auto Bureau for a set appointment time (60 min for a 10 min inspection ??). Shop truck hydraulic hose blew out on freeway... lost brakes, and steering... Managed ok but made it a little late to the ref.... and being govt he was not willing to fit us in today. Boo. Not having title and registration bodes poorly for the 40 on 40 I am very disappointed that we will not make it due to the first "next" ref meeting will be Oct 8. Bummed. Will have to find a make up event with some 308's. What a great opportunity gone. (2) Back to our marathon go shoving 5 days of wiring controllers and EV systems into 2-3. Alignment, engine lid fitting, and suspension adjustments set for Tuesday. Rolling to Willow Springs for Weds track day.... Still looking good and at least I will have some initial footage to share. Curb weight close and maybe just under OEM. We will be adjusting corner balance Tuesday and provide details then. (3) Picked up the ElectricGT badge from Billet Badges and the contractor "cam" cover is not "branded". Anyone have factory corner balance weight on the 78 308 US edition? Is there a thread I missed? This will give you a bit of an idea. http://www.ferrarichat.com/forum/technical-q-sponsored-algar-ferrari/61186-308-gtb-corner-weighting-data-question.html
1- RandyDean - Thank you. That is perfect. Adam Cox at @Ace_Motorsports_Racing on Tuesday will be guiding us and making alighnment and suspension adjustments (round 1). This info will be very helpful in the effort. Expecting a few adjustment rounds and hoping track time on Weds will dial in decent ride settings. 2 - As much as nice photos are awesome, the details are worth sharing since there is a little suffering installing things . Seeing as this is a first build on the 308 at the shop, a few things got in first... wishing the battery and CanEV were not installed prior to dropping the Inverter in. At least it is in a sweet spot above the 12v battery in front of the pass foot plate on front fire wall. Was a bit tight working in there ..... also rerouted the hi-voltage CanEv feed in orange. 3 - Dropping 2 chargers into the mid bay. Essential but not attractive. 1 would do but charge time would be @12 hours +/- on "empty". Dropping 2 in parallel gives roughly 1/2 the charge time @6.5 hrs. They fit perfectly inverted onto the Curtis controller cross bay bracket on either side above the G50 trans. Just another great fit in what is turing out to come together so well. 4. Batteries are modular and strapped in the boxes and further secured into the boxes structure. Seeing as we intend to drive every day, we must be functional... Using the Porsche Concept car 800v system & required (non existent public) charger may leave us watching the car for 6+ years..... So we drive and smoke tires now.... Rear battery pack split 12 & 12 filled into where the dual OEM fuel tanks resided. About 150 lbs per pack. Low, forward of rear axle, and tight to frame rail. Tomorrow we descend upon the GTE for 2 days of massive heavy delivery effort..... Will keep you posted from the shop with updates. 40 for 40! The boys all decended on the shop today. In force. Round one of pictures now and will post more at the end of the work shift..... 12 hours and counting... Hi-voltage wiring, motors, controllers, contractor box, etc. And a couple awesome under car shots. And clutch smell and all sorts of details that need to be addressed.... but it runs.... video soon enough... 18 hour day and here are some cool photos from a marathon work day with the whole shop crew. Usually there is a shakedown to tie up loose ends however, this project ran upon full connection with only minor adjustments out the gate. 1. Contactor box is fully wired up... Intricate and tighter than expected even after full computer modeling.... Well done by Trent. 2. Front Battery pack had its final contact plate attached to complete the circuit. Total pack measured in excellent just under 160 volts. 3. The 2o high-voltage cable linkage is all in place and rear box circuits were connected. One large grip of power! Controllers connected and tested. Engines spun up nicely. 4. Gauges working. And looking great. 5. Just before peeling out. I have been following this topic on the background, with a very conservative stance (A Ferrari is just a Ferrari when equipped with a petrol-powered Ferrari engine) but curious. As you guys got further in the build I became more and more enthousiastic. I never drove an electric car until a few months ago, when a buddy took me (as a passenger...)for a short drive in his Fisker Karma. Awesome.. Those 7 seconds-on-youtube made my heart skip a few beats. Though way beyond my expertise/knowledge I find your work/engineering really superb, no doubt the car will perform in a "Ferrari-worthy" way. You guys could very well give a glimpse in the future with this project, hey, even my grandchildren-to-be (that is, should I ever get them) might still be able to experience the "real Ferrari feeling" after we're out of oil/petrol ! Best of luck with the finishing touches & shake downs !!
Fantastic job Hutch! Congratulations....what a rewarding project. I can't wait to see it on the track.
Please make another video with engine shots and all around shots want to share it the guys that installed my solar panels! Rob
Pending my return to connectivity, there is a brief video of the car on the track! Check @electricferrari on Instagram. Also other photos from today at Willlow Spings. Have lots to update since we have been under the gun tonget here today. Car runs great. Lools great. Plenty to adjust but WOW! What a foundation.
So much has happened over the past 5 days... Sorry for the delay but here are some photos, updates, and video's.... Was under the gun to get the GTE to Willow Springs to share with our friends at AOL-Translogic for their filming of a segment about Virtual Reality video and filming. They wanted to use the 308 for the demonstration... Was not a performance test but we did use the opportunity to perform basic shakedown testing. The team was able to get the car running. We have lots to adjust, modify, and refine so there there will be much more to come on this project. Update items: 1. Rocky & crew at Custom Auto Body in San Diego expertly fitted the new (and not torched original) Engine Lid to the 308. It took 4 guys about an hour and it set stiff on the latches with the new truck seals. The fire side lid arm ws tweeted and needed substantial "influence" but appears in good condition. What an iconic addition to have back on the car after a long year! 2. All the high voltage wiring is in place. But there is a lot of verification, confirmation, testing, etc. Double checking all connections, wiring etc. Will try to expand upon this soon. Battery performance, balancing, wiring verification and testing, controller testing, cooling system monitoring and adjustment etc... Several areas that will be addressed in coming posts.... Sufficient to say that the past week of 12 hours days with the crew accomplished so much that it will take some time to catch up on the installation with detail photos..... 3. Performance - Testing and performance stats will be a really fun and detailed process.... 2 motors are up and we have to check a few items to get the 3rd running... Worth noting that performance at @66% is impressive and the 3rd when kicking in should be shocking. . 4. Ace Motor Sports adjusted the alignment and suspension at a basic level to get it out the door... We will be revisiting with Adam next week for full adjustment and performance tuning on the suspension. 5. So on to some peel out video, track shots & video..... Track Shot: 6 seconds of basic running: https://youtu.be/L7kM7E9UcwE Peel Out: Shop testing at reduced power: https://youtu.be/YV3PhNHbsHQ Generally really stoked with initial testing. 1. Flashback Photos: BBQ to Beauty 2. Black is back.... Was black and is black again... Interior work has been done (and once redone) for some time... but wow... does it look good when dropped in? The seats are OEM with a close to OEM makeover... Had the main seat panels perforated along with the interior lid "head liners". 3. Jonathan Buckley is shooting for AOL-Translogics next show to air about October 15. They are featuring Oculus Technology 360 filming that allows you to use an App to watch and as you move the googles or phone/device, you can see the video.... It is really cool and will provide driving footage while circling a track at Willow Springs Raceway. 4. The GTE is now a legit, legal, road certified car. Can'y believe how efficient the DMV was yesterday... I know what your thinking but check this out. I have not been to the BAR and was looking for temp registration..... to get there next week and to attend the 40 4 40. Well the VIN verification guy went nuts, people at the DMV circled, a red Lamborgini pulled up for a VIN verification too and is was rather bonn-dmv like there!. The gal inside went through all the paperwork with a single "you need this so see you later" remark and asked for smog papers. I simply said it was electric and she said great, no problem. Shazam.... Not in the photo the MP - Mode Propulsion is now permanently E....lectric! The FRIST EVER DMV RECOGNIZED ELECTRIC FERRARI. And is marked with the not so scarlet letter of SALVAGE for LIFE. (Note the error on registration of 76.... typo as is is a 78 to be corrected when I get the new plates in two weeks). And one last little note.... they had to issue a 2016 tag in Ferrari Red. Really. See you all Sunday in Santa Monica.
