Windshield haze

Driving into sunset light - low angle direct sun - my windshield is almost like its fogged over. Without polarized sunglasses impossible. It is not pitted and I've tried cleaners and 600 steel wool. Anybody with similar experience/solution? 2002 Modena..low miles.

No. Have you tried cleaning the inside of the windshield with window cleaner?

 

I thought I was the only one, mine is a 2002 also. Tried cleaning inside and out, even my detail guy told me it must be between the layers of glass.

 

Yes ...cleaned both with multiple products ...

Had the exact same thing and probably spent over $200 trying different glass cleaners. My wife even tried her mixture of water and vinegar. Nothing worked until I talked to a specialty detailing shop who put me onto this stuff. Auto Glym glass polish. Took the haze out but is more time consuming and expensive then just a quick glass cleaner spray. I believe I paid @ $16 for the bottle and just use a micro fibre towel to apply and take off.

Griots sells a clay bar for glass which I have used with great results.

Cheap and bit time consuming but looks great.

Only did the exterior of the glass.

What does a clay bar do for glass?

 

I guess the same it does for the top coat of the car.

Removes imperfections and makes it VERY smooth.

You can feel the difference.

 

I found this exact thing on my 2002 360. Made me nuts. Looked closer and whoever owned it before me installed some type of very thin window shield on the outside I assume to protect it from rocks, etc. I left it on for the protection.

One other thing that is common in AZ is for car windshields to get kinda fuzzy over time. It is from all the dust in the air. Driving though it day after day slightly buffs the outer layer of the windshield. Install a new windshield and you will be amazed at the difference!

 

And then follow it up with a coat or two of Griots glass sealant. Great results. I did the glass sealant the same day I had a new windshield installed, and unless the rain is really heavy, I don't even need to use wipers.

My 2000 Modena has had haze that I couldn't seem to get rid of so I did this today:

1- glass cleaner w/ microfiber towel
2- clay bar (with water on glass)
3- glass cleaner w/ microfiber
4- RainX (or you could use carnauba wax) w/ microfiber; wait 5-10 minutes and buff off

On the rear glass (engine cover), I did the same as above minus the RainX

Went for a drive and it's never looked better from the driver's seat.

 

I have the clay bar but can't believe it would work as #600 steel wool didn't phase it...Will try the clay. How would you remove the film?

My 2003 360 has the same hazing problem on the windshield and rear glass between the cabin and engine bay. My detailer also tried to remove using different cleansers and steel wool inside and outside without success. He concluded it was probably an issue with the laminated glass (hazing happening between the glass layers), which can only be resolved by replacing the glass. My engine cover and door glass is crystal clear. I wonder if this is a product defect affecting certain years or OEM suppliers.

 

Both cars have spots on the engine cover glass. 430 and a 458. I'm going to try to get rid of them also. I bought something called Dura gloss polish. Yet to try it. I'll keep everyone posted.
