Please keep P&R out of the F1 section. I appreciate that the deleted posts were made with good humor, but we need to contain that kind of thing to the P&R subforum.

    Many thanks,
    Andrew.

Seriously though, assuming F1 shuts down...i know i will never miss it, given the current rules and regulations.

it won't be a disaster for me, but it is the only sport i watch...

maybe i'll just stop procrastinating and assemble that racing sim i have collecting dust in the garage...

i'm sure you will find something meaningful to fill the void...better that than watching whatever bullcrap F1 is at the moment. I haven't been watching the last 5-6 GPs now...

I agree that the current F1 isnt much fun. I am skipping several races this year. Something I didnt do in the past.

I already picked up other things in my life which are keeping me busy and more interested. But I am not willing to just give up on F1.

Race sim? Sounds fun. I built one ten years ago but eventually got rid of it. If I would do it again then only as a moving one

Ya, mine doesn't have motion...I tried one at SEMA last year by CXC, it felt really hokey / gimmicky. I mean you get the simulated bumps and shoves, but none of it feels remotely like the actual Gs etc you get when on an actual track.

And oh, coz I'm poor, the $55k price tag was also a big turn off for me =D

This is what my non-moving chassis looks like, I guess if I continue to procrastinate, it'll be decor :)

I share the same feelings...a moving chassis is a gimmick still IMO.

My Guess is that they'll just have to settle for a de-tuned Ferrari engine

Or Maurizio can live up to his word and give them the proper engine to fight it out. It's the Ferrari way right? C'mon!

They've never given an equal engine to anyone - Whenever there is a talk about an engine supply it is a de-tuned version

Been there, done that. Lots of fun, but not what interests me anymore.

    Check these out:

There is of course FChat sponsor CXC, which is the gold standard. But you can plonk down "only" 5k and still get a dynamic sim, which is a LOT more than just feeling bumps in the road. I've tried these things and they do deliver another dimension of immersion.

For me it is not so much a $ issue, but more of a space issue as these things get big fast. Three monitors and "on stilts" and you basically dedicate a room to it.

Watch this guy and you think you're standing still. :)

Trust me, it isn't. Try one and see for yourself. You do feel the "gs" building up, positive and negative, forward and sideways. Of course they are miniscule compared to the real thing but your brain gets the message and the immersion into the game/simulation is much deeper than with a seat planted on the floor. Another thing is also that some of these sims also tighten the belts. All that might sound gimmicky but when in the game, you feel it. Not so much consciously but subconsciously. I did a few laps around Road America (a track I did IRL as well) and it felt damn real.

    Try it.

Dunno, the ones I tried didn't leave me feeling it was absolutely necessary to squeeze a few more tenths out, nor did it buy 20K more of feel what the car was doing. High quality pedals, great wheel and decent sub is a better investment for me...

That said, the last movable rig I tried was quite some time ago, I'm sure technology has caught up a lot and prices hopefully ''adjusted'' to something more reasonable.
