So has anyone installed the double din system? Would be keen to know how it worked out and how it looks installed.

My dealer here in the UK tells me that this Clarion system can't be fitted to later 612's with the Bose system. Anybody heard otherwise?

Yes we've heard that to be true either here or on another thread that was running at the time.

This system was devised to replace the single din units of the earlier cars, a different interface is required for the later cars and it was not made clear if this interface would become available or how much better this new system is than the Bose radio in the later cars

I had my 612 at the Melbourne dealer for an annual service this week, and I asked about this upgrade. Initially they had no knowledge of it (not many 612's around here it seems). Anyway they did some homework and said they will check with the factory for availability and price, and then contact me. Watch this space....

You can get a better double DIN system than the Ferrari branded one. Pioneer makes great units now that are Apple Carplay and Android compatible, and which allow for backup camera hookups, etc.

For a 612, I do not think having a Ferrari branded headunit adds any value over a state of the art unit from another maker.

If you are going to swap headunits install the most advanced unit, then retain your existing Becker, and re-install when you go to sell or trade the car, as originality is valued.

In my 612 I had a Pioneer unit which was phenomenal, worked wonderfully with the Bose system. And you can even upload a Ferrari graphic that will pop-up everytime the car starts.

Check out the Pioneer NEX series. They are all touch screen. If you want the cleanest look - in other words one that does not advertise that it is not OEM -- then get the model without the side volume knob.

The touch screen models have small push buttons on the bottom of the screen. There is a setting so you can select the back light color for the pushbuttons to match your Ferrari. It is the light yellow/green that matches the instruments.

Overall, the newest pioneer units look pretty upscale, not like the cheesier plasticky ones from 10 years ago.

Different pricing on whether or not you want DVD, GPS, etc. I link below to their highest end model.

This looks interesting and I also see no benefit in having an original Ferrari unit which would almost certainly be inferior. It's not as though Ferrari actually make them anyway.
Can this Pioneer unit Also replace the later double unit though or is it only for the early single unit?

One is OEM the other is not. Huge difference IMHO.
