I know that exhaust threads are plentiful here however I think I have a more specific question. I am currently running stock exhaust with gutted stock cats. As I currently live right downtown, the current set up is about as loud as I'd like it to be at idle/light throttle. If I was to move to say hyperflow cats and say a Capristo 1 would the idle volume be similar or would I be severely pissing off the neighbourhood? Goal here would obviously be to improve med/full throttle exhaust note. One other consideration, as the car is also used for road trips, droning at highway speed would not be a good thing.

It is louder but not like a domestic V8 kind of loud, nothing crazy, but when the bypass opens up you get everything you could ask for. I have the Capristo 3 and hyperflows with fabspeed headers and there is no drone at any cruise speed, I see no reason for the 1 to be any different. I had a challenge exhaust on it for about a week, that droned like crazy at any speed.

As far as car volume goes, the sort of person who will be pizzed off at you for your car volume probably would not otherwise be a good friend if you had a quiet car. My neighbors can feel my ZL1 in their houses when I start up and leave. But I get to listen to their screaming kids, incessant mowing and trimming, and leaf blowing so it is all fair game.

I love mine dearly, but if keeping on talking terms with the neighbourhood is your aim, then stay away from Capristo, would be my advice!
Maybe Larini could be a good compromise of originality with increased sound at speed?

Are you running the bypass valve or challenge pipe?
As the factory exhaust is plenty loud (strong idle) I would stick with hyperflow cats with stock bypass valve & muffler.
The extra volume and droning from a capristo would get old very fast....especially on longer extended trips.
Its all a personal choice though.

Idle volume is not much different with the capristo. Go for the capristo 3 as it has more baffling on the primary. All capristo are the same on bypass (pretty much wide open) so as long as you don't crack it open in the neighborhood you should be fine.

I drove my car from Miami to richmond with a capristo 2 and no droning or discomfort. The straight through challenge exhaust on it now, on the other hand...

I have Larini Y-pipe and exhaust fitted
Also Tubi manifolds and stock cats
Louder than original but acceptable for the neighbourhood
as long as the valve stays closed
    No drone
