You've been exercising your muscles instead of your brain again.

yes...myfazzman was wrong and I was right. No surprise there.

If he told me a 308 would be worth $150k or more, I would have said I didn't have a crystal ball, but I would have said that, relative to a 246 for example, they seemed undervalued.

Wait...so fazzman was wrong AND right??

    You need more oxygen!!!

He wasn't right......when we had the discussion, and that was years ago now, they were $50k, and now they're not.

No, back then, they were undervalued.......or is everything is massively overvalued now. It depends on your point of view doesn't it.

Read my post-I said you were right at the time-that's what they roughly were.

He thought they were worth much more.

    Time proved he was right.

Anybody with 1/2 a brain can see whats happening today......the trick is working out what will happen tomorrow.

Myfazzman did well with all those 308 parts he bought up for years when nobody wanted them. He saw value in them when most didn't. That's the point of my last post.

What the hell?? Seriously. I was right...full stop. myfazz was wrong. the end. There was no discussion about future values...it was current. Would you like me to find the thread?

    *shakes head*

You're doing a phil....you just want me to be wrong so badly that you don't mind looking stupid.

    I will say it again.......actually...no I won't.

where in my post did I say you were wrong?

I think I said the opposite.

God your right! People's comprehension skills are appalling on this site :p

Anyway, I need to stave my brain of oxygen and head to the gym.

    Have a great day PP

Oh.....btw, the current value reflects its future value. Simple Present Value formula. Finance 101.

Market values change because the pricing was wrong-due to new information or whatever other factors you think may have changed.

Sorry hun, I just got back from the gym so my brain is deprived of oxygen and blood.

There I go. I just shook my head in response to your last reply. Some blood in my brain now.

I'm sorry that you just don't understand such a simple abstract concept that the Present Value of an item prices its future value........but then again, all those mathematicians and text books are just plain wrong. We should know better!

I understand it perfectly well, I'm shaking my head at the absurdity of you thinking it's relevant.

    relevancy?

    Simple.

Anytime you talk about the current value of something where it's value isn't immediately used up by current consumption, future value plays its part in its present value.

    Quite elementary yeah?

    The day beckons :)

    Ciao PP

I understand the concept, you know.

Still not relevant to what the value was on the day of the discussion....ya weirdo.

I'll just refer to what you're doing as "doing a phil"...that is, you'll say anything, no matter how stupid, just so you don't have to agree with what I posted.

If I could be so bold and butt in on this conversation.................value and price are often mutually exclusive, particularly when it comes to cars

Well that's opening a can of worms! Good to see that your getting into the spirit of things around here :)

Hmm. Price is just one measure of value.

Then the market price is the collective measure of a dollar value of something.

Your individual perception of an item's value can differ to the market. It is a democracy after all. Your decision on an item's value will be reflected in the market price your willing to pay or sell something for.

Market prices fluctuate all the time as market prices and market value come into some into some equilibrium.

Sometimes your right and sometimes your wrong when you buy or sell something.

You'd certainly understand when "your" (sic) wrong when you sell, right?

Sure......and vice versa when you pay too much and haven't priced the risks correctly either.

Talking about price versus value, you should look at the late carbie GTB they have at the Healey factory. Aussie delivered off course! 1980 I think, so one of the last. Red with ciuio. $185K!!!!!....esp when you see the condition of it. Again price versus value.

are you talking ASKING price v value?

because IMO, the selling price IS the value.

If you're talking asking price, then wtf?

and nothing near what you should have and could have....oh well.

You're lucky Ferraris have gone through the roof, because the profit you made sure as hell wasn't because of good or clever planning.

    Yes, when there is parity.

When prices fluctuate a lot, one of the reasons is because value and prices are not aligned due to changing information.....see stock market. When I'm making these statements, it ceteris paribus off course!

Never is....as you know all too well.

How much is a 308 worth to a Dino? Lets assume they drive equally well, which isn't strictly true but its close enough.

Btw PP, do you know ALL the inherent risks associated with buying my car?

I sold it in good conscience considering all the potential pitfalls.......none of them relating to it being a UK car.
