Yes they are, the last two on this page 33 are the same cars in red and silver. I don't know where these cars are now, maybe Marc knows, but he is too busy at Chantilly right now to follow this thread I think!

Hi all, A busy week with Chantilly yes! Not sure where the two Khamsins sold by Gullwing went maybe the owners will contact me. We discussed these cars some time ago when they were sold by them. In Chantilly which was again fantastic I had the pleasure of seeing AM120US1144 which I had seen in 2007 in a parking lot under Avenue Foch in Paris, see 2 photos in each location. It is now owned by a very friendly German who lives in Paris. He too had seen it gathering dust there and after an 18 month effort was able to contact the elusive owner and managed to buy it. He has already gotten rid of the weird front bumper setup and will put the car right ie standard wheels and various other things, so one more now into good hands It was a perfect day in a stunning setting, it is now unquestionably the most glamorous concours in the world, after all how can two waterfront hotels -Villa d'Este and Pebble Beach-, no matter how prestigious compete with one of the grandest castles in the world? Of course these two other events have a legacy but all the great collectors have now embraced Chantilly, which by the way has 100 times more space than Pebble and several 100 times more space than Villa d'Este. you should all come next year with or without car but dressed 60's elegant. There were quite a few Masers including the Aga Khan 5000GT Frua but just that one Khamsin. The evening was a nightmare as there was a fatal crash on the autoroute back to Paris (not involving classics) and thousands of us just sat there for hours parked on it like in a giant parking lot while medivac helicopters did their work. What made it far less tedious is that I was giving Classic & Sports Car editor Mick Walsh a lift back to Charles de Gaulle airport. He missed his flight but we had a great multi hour chat. AMLC congrats on finding that photo. I believe the Bora Gr4 is 3001 the second car because it has flattened rear wheel arches at the top and 3000 did not. Thanks, for a moment I thought the celeste car was my car, but it probably isn't because my wipers are not like this (not crossed as I believe it is called). This celeste car may be the same car as in the first brochure? Could this photo be from (late) 1973? It looks like there is "december 1973" in the right corner (and the first brochure is dated november 1973).
Hi AMLC, I don't like to speculate if I am not sure. There is no proof as far as I am aware. One funny detail in another early brochure is the one page leaflet with a dark blue K in a garden. If you look closely the fuel flap is missing, either broken off not fitted or not available as the right rear view is only a tiny photo in that leaflet so that people would hopefully not notice. I first noticed when indexing Adolfo Orsi's photo archive in spring 2006 in Modena: he has the originals. The very first photo of the Khamsin chapter in my book is part of that shoot in a big historic villa near Modena. It is fascinating to figure out details of the early brochures, the cars and the locations, no one agrees as to which castle was used for the famous shoot early on: in November last year near Modena I jumped the wall of a castle at night Why would I do that, at night after dinner? Well there was construction so I just used the scaffolding which was easy and no one lives there but most importantly 40 years later no one is sure of where this photo was taken. One factory test driver states it was at the castle I "visited" but once I had walked around the grounds I was able to confirm it was not shot there...so the quest remains unresolved Of course nothing is less important but it is fun to try to figure it out! HI AMLC, Thanks for that. A German who owns 296 and used to own 040 had mentioned this car to me, it lived near him. It is the only US Khamsin I know which has had the glass substituted by a body panel. In his comments from 2008 he wrote in German that it "initially" had that alloy panel instead of the glass but in the ad you link us to in photo 10 we can see the back is still opaque and no photo shows the back at all. He went on to say that the car was in fact delivered new to Germany and with that alloy panel instead of the glass, one of at least three US cars which never crossed the Atlantic but were sold instead directly in Europe such as 1168. In other news another K, a US auto Khamsin also living in Germany has been delivered to a very good garage for 5 speed conversion, that garage can handle it. Will later on post photos of my ex car being restored in Holland, and very nicely so, in its original oro kelso. Best regards, Marc
One thing worth mentioning from the description of 1158 is that the car was mechanically converted to Euro-spec by Maserati, and this is said to be documented. Amongst other things, it says that also the gearbox was changed Did the manual box US-versions have a different set of gears in them? Best, Jack.
Hi Jack, Interesting because another car, 1168 which also stayed in Europe and was sold in Modena despite it being a US car, was sold as is with the big bumpers. It was however sold with a kilometer gauge not miles which was a legal requirement since it was sold by the factory to its first owner in Italy. Regarding 1158 I am not sure if the gear ratios are different for US cars I don't think so, but the differential ratio is certainly shorter on US cars to give better acceleration since high top speed was useless considering the ridiculously low 55mph speed limit and the deleterious climate in the 70's after the energy crisis. Sometimes vendors ad texts are not very precise, such as Christie's in 2007 at Retromobile writing that the Khamsin spyder had hydraulic everything INCLUDING suspension! Therefore I think the mention of gearbox replacement is wrong, just the diff ratio but anyone interested in the car should clarifiy that. Best regards, Marc

Hi to all Brown, automatic, sunroof, tinted Windows, US bumpers are about all the attributes I would not want when I look for a Khamsin. Yet it is nice to see this new addition to my database; very low milage ! Probably Chassis 1190 and certainly not 1975 as quoted, when you look at the later type seats and steering wheel, but 1977. Can anyone confirm my guess ? Kurt Tanner Motorcars» Blog Archive » 1975 MASERATI KHAMSIN. 1 OF ONLY 155 U.S. SPEC CARS. BROWN WITH TAN TRIM. AUTOMATIC GEARBOX. Hello AMLC, Busy traveling, too may countries, so can finally catch up: this is AM120082 which was in Sweden until the last year, a gorgeous albeit non original color, it has a superbly redone interior, non original engine. I got to ride in it in Stockholm in May of last year and the streets of Stockholm seen from a Khamsin at night are very glamorous Best regards, Marc Image Unavailable, Please Login
Hello Roger and thank you, It is not 1190 though as that has had Euro bumpers for years, see below, just another K out of the woodwork. Best regards, Marc Image Unavailable, Please Login
No, sorry, can not confirm, because I think all US cars had the later type seats and steering wheel (only the early EURO and RHD cars had the earlier seats and steering wheel). Also the numbers (like Autovettura) of this brown car are very close to the numbers of 1975 Khamsin #1012 for sale at Fantasy Junction (1975 Maserati Khamsin). So, although I know that this is no exact science, I think the brown car is from 1975 and will have a chassisnumber somewhere in the range of #1006 to #1020.

Hello AMLC Thanks for resolving the mistery !. I have checked what you wrote, I can almost agree. There is #1004 in southern Germany (Friedrichshafen) which has old style seats and steering wheel, but that ist the only one on record.
