Wow. Love the combo. Cool to see valve guides done and the tubi headers. Should make a great car for an enthusiast. Good luck with your sale.

I usually prefer tan interior with a red exterior but I gotta say that's a really pretty car. The real clincher is the fact that you've apparenty addressed the typical 355 issues, so it's an immediate driver for the new buyer. Nice car, nice deal.

I see that you did a compression test - did you also do the leak-down test in conjunction? If so, what were the results?

Here is the hard-copy recording chart for of the compression test performed with 4-5 cranks on a cold engine and wide-open throttle. Higher compressions may appear with a warmed engine or a increased number of crank cycles. The compression values appear in bar which should be converted to psi.

The Samstag Motometer compression tester is one of the coolest tools I use regularly. It is a bit of old-school engineering that has thankfully survived in the modern digital world. Take a look here:

    MotoMeter Germany

Also thanks for all the positive comments about the car!

    ^ Apparently not.

Leak down is really far more important than a compression test on these engines. Looks like a great example; wish you had the leak down results to back it up.

Absolutely false. Compression tells the Health of the cylinder. 4-5 cranks is too low, he needs to do 9 then the numbers will be 200 or so.

A leak down is used to determine if the valves or rings are leaking if you are making poor compression. With good compression, a leak down is a total waste of time.

^ Apparently - Any buyer can do another full PPI if they don't wish to go with the first one completed by the authorized dealer or the compression numbers.

Not everyone would require or need a leakdown if compression numbers are satisfactory. It's unfortunate to use the word "unfortunate" in a for sale add response. Right? It's also unfortunate that every engine isn't blueprinted to further expand upon "a perfect world" but that also may not be necessary. :) Let's cut him some slack on a very nice car.

^^ Agreed. Appears to be in awesome condition and is 21 years old. Just had a major/guides, and tubi headers? Likely an excellent car IMO.

Well it does look like a beautifull car. Id feel more comfortable making an offer if the compression was higher scince valve guides were just done. Might be a good idea to redo comp test with 9 cranks

    Price lowered to $82.5k:

It occurred to me that the one item this GTB could be missing is a Challenge grill. Therefore I would like to reduce the price by $1,500 so that the new owner can have the option of improving the airflow and rear-end look as soon as the car arrives.

Also I have responded to all PMs. PM for additional pictures, Carfax, records, etc. Thanks.

You don't know what you're talking about. Worst advice on a 355 ever uttered.

Robb: If you knew anything about these engines, you would absolutely require a leak down test.

INTMD8: Just because the work was recently done, doesn't mean it was done well. Yes, it looks like a great car. A leak down test will confirm it.

Also, FWIW, you want to see all cylinders above 200 psi on compression.

    Delete my posts, IDGAF.

Compression test and leak down tests tell you two different things. One will give you an indication of another. But neither one completely replaces the need for the other. . If the compression numbers were absolutely bang on perfect out of this world... and I had receipts to prove head work was just performed than ya... id probably skip the leak down. But thats still a 15k dollar gamble someone is taking. You better make sure the odds are on your side.

No, that would be you. A lead down only tells if the leak is in the head (valve to seat seal), the head gasket or the block (rings). Carbon buildup can cause poor leakdown when guides are fine. Good compression means good cylinder heath. You apparently have no hands on experience and spend too much time reading things you do not understand.

Ken, GLWTS - looks like a nice car!

Can you quote where I said "the work was recently done so it must have been done well". I said it was likely an excellent car, no need to have a mental breakdown.

    Rick,

Feel free to discuss the full topic in the F355 section (where it has been covered previously numerous times). Not in the for sale ad. I'm sure you will get balanced responses there. No harm no foul. :)
