All in all, 918 seems like best-packed car! Tyre discussion shows again that McLaren is trying hard to keep up with true big players in this game - Porsche & Ferrari. That hard effort from McLaren should be respected
It seems you didn't get what I said as I wasn't talking about track racing ! So if the Trofeos was to blame for the latest test what about a 50hp advantage on a roll on ? A drag (trap speed) and specially a roll on will tell you exactly how the car delivers the power to the ground and how much advantage the extra hp can do. The 918 and the Agera R not the perfect example yet you can see the HP advantage on a roll on test 887hp (i do believe the 918 making way more than 887hp) vs what 1.140 HP (263hp advantage for the Agera R) Now take that and try to figure what I experienced with the 3 No disrespect but it seems either you never did what I said above, as i come from a tuning world and dealt with over 1500hp cars daily.. 2 you just lack experiance which is ok we all did at some point. Ya ill buy the whole competition thing I think competition is what drives a lot of us. I'd love to drive any of them I think they're great. Sub 10 quarter mile stock cars blow my mind especially with the handling capabilities of these 3.
hmmmm English car won...owned by an Englishman and tested at a track in Britain.. I smell a conspiracy!
And in exactly the kind of unsupervised "customer car" test the english carmaker wanted and Ferrari didn't. Doubt Mr Bailey will have to pay for his next McLaren.
Hah, yes, if only straight line application of power I agree 100%. My experience with tuned cars is limited to GTR tuned to 800 and some old school cars (300zx tuned to over 550 but with no advanced electronics). Nothing in the 1500hp range for sure. Just referring to difference in putting power down in straight line vs curves is hugely different.
Seems to me discussing speed and track performance nowadays almost seems silly as someone can buy a Nissan GTR or a Audi R8/Gallardo and spend 100k and have a 1500 horsepower track monster that would destroy any of these hypercars. Am I wrong? Power is so cheap and accessible nowadays
Question for anyone who owns a 918. There have been a few posts about Porsche updating the car since it was delivered to customers. Could anyone outline what some of these updates are (for example electric motor power boosts or electric range extenders) and if this updated have had tangible effects on performance?
Those GTRs dont last with that level of tune, especially if doing a few laps.. same with the gallardo. You also don't see them setting extreme nurburgring laps etc. Straight line, definitely, but in modified form, they aren't in the same class as even their stock counterparts in terms of doing real lapping (though GTRs technical wizardry starts to lose effect after what multiple laps of that excess weight does to the brakes / other systems...) Then again, that LaF that was being thrown around in BH didn't fare so well either...
Why not buy a Radical if you want maximum bang for minimum buck, would kill any of these cars for 10% of the msrp. Not nearly as road friendly but would be an option if you lived near the track.
I wish it's that easy. You can get a way with few extra hp and ecu tune specially if it's a Turbo car, shocks..etc But then the more you go higher the lesser track friendly it becomes, but if you want to be king of the road nothing can keep up with a well tuned balanced car. My Vipers can easily trap 165mph+ in a good day, but even with lowest boost setting It's almost impossible to handle it at a racing track. But my Viper ACR improved much with few mods like ecu and full exhaust so there is some point when you lose control and when you gain with few mods. Of course depending on what you want, a street king or a track monster. Like : https://youtu.be/au2v9TNnqHc And this ! https://youtu.be/m7GJWyCB0MA Mbn
But as much road usable as an F3 car, that was my point. BTW Ford has built a road legal F3 prototype car with a 1 litre turbo engine.
Sure you all saw the vid of the P1,Lafa,918 going round Silverstone. Today Part 2 was Filmed. I expect the times and Video to be out some time next week.
In Wellington, NZ today they had a special charity event with all three plus Ferrai Enzo, F50 & F40. Must say of three, stylistically my favourite was the 918, 2nd was the La Ferrari and 3rd was the P1. Yes they were all static but the La Ferrari was at least showing significant signs of use which is great to see.......
I expect very soon the Video will be out, which will settle which one of the P1, Lafa, and 918, is the fastest accelerating car.
I expect very soon the Video will be out which will settle this debate, ie which one of the P1, Lafa, and 918, is the fastest accelerating car.
