Would, say, five laps for each journalist make such a difference?

What will the M4 GTS be priced at? That may determine how competitive these two cars will actually be.

What about engineering and reliability? The M4's water injection sounds scary...

I guess gts at about $90k so 30% more than 350.

    and with less power too.

can add gt4 to mix also

The GTS has a water injection system also.

Pretty interesting and complicated solution to a problem that only they have?

I dont think you can compare turbos to NA motors. From an experience perspcitive its hard to beat NA. Turbos are sorta faking it and then fooling you with lots of TQ.

Maybe the Mustang does not have the build of the BMW or the nice interior, but to drive around a track i know which one I would take and its not the BMW.

The Mustang is the real thing, the Beemer is a long way from cars thta built that brands rep.

I'm enthralled by the idea of the R's engine in a GTM with a G50 transmission.

    Potentially dumb question ...

Are dealers selling these at MSRP or with huge markup? Is it possible to get a 2016 allocation or is the line 1-2 years long?

Yes so far many stories of dealers Asking huge mark ups. Either be prepared to search out of state and make many many calls, or wait for the hype to die down and order a 2017. That's what I'm do Doing.

As of three weeks ago, my dealer had only sold one, and it was sold at MSRP.

Due to restricted allocation numbers, the R model is drawing dealer mark-ups everywhere. The non-R model could be found earlier with no mark-up but most have attracted some small dealer mark-up.

If you want one at MSRP, wait a little bit a non-R will be easy to find next year. My dealer had one allocation which I got at MSRP. Will be built next Thursday.

It would be awesome if they had a program where you could tour the factory and see your car being built.

Agreed. Why Ford doesn't allow this for certain cars is puzzling.

    Theres a thought.
Thats why I asked about motor weight. The coyote on which the engine is based is quite heavy comapred to a sbc.

Out of curiosity, I tried to look up the weights for the new LT1 compared to the 5.0 Coyote; the figures I found showed 465 lbs for the LT1 and 444 for the Coyote. The Coyote figure comes from the Ford Racing Performance Parts website, and the LT1 figure came from TopSpeed.com, for whatever that's worth.

Thanks for the more factualy feedback than my vague impression.

Yeah a GTM with a flat plane 530hp ford motor sounds like an unbeatable track car.

Probaly lots of great homes for this motor. Hopefully Ford builds something mid engined and light for it too.

That's surprising. I'd have thought that the DOHC Coyote engine would've outweighed the LT1, which is known to be a light engine given the displacement. As you implied, might not be an apples-to-apples comparison.

It's not about the weight of the motor, its about the size.
The Coyote is simply to wide to fit most applications.

It's pretty light for its size though. Most high hp OHC engines wiegh 500+

wow, your not kidding about size.

I remember the origional zr1 vette motor from 1990 weighted the same as a pushrod big Block, but was designed to fit under the hood of a C4. Loved that motor.
