You can't use the factory part - that will fail again within a few years. Various people have custom made replacements that solve the original design fault, about US$15K for the part, plus labour, plus whatever else needs replacing while you've got the thing apart. Like all things with Ferraris, it's never simple and I've yet to hear of anyone to get out of the job under $40K, except perhaps Rob H in Melbourne, who did most of the work himself. The fact is that the blue car, despite it's caring past owners, is a grenade waiting to happen. Apart from the diff and the fuse board, TR's are robust & reliable cars.
they did, during the latter part of the 512TR production run, but my understanding is that the parts are not backwards compatible, as they increased dimensions to make everything stronger. If you trawl through the TR thread on here, you'll get all the facts, in gruesome detail. A late 512TR is the car to have and is worth $100K more than a TR all day long, it has all sorts of improvements. 512M is unfortunately fugly.
I had a brief chat to Rob H at the concours a couple of years ago, he brought along the flat 12 engine he rebuilt. Diff explosion sounded like a complex and expensive issue
I like the 512TR, but it's hard to believe the M could have been designed and approved by anyone blessed with the gift of sight. Those wheels... *shudder*
Yep, more than likely sold. Looked like a nice car with a well known 1st owner and good history. I reckon bargain at 210K. M
I've had my eye on some LP-550s, and the ones that have popped up at around $250k gone within a week!
