New spy shot video of latest FF: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3VqiWdHFRXQ There are a lot of taped surfaces: something very interesting is taped on hood, problematic roof is taped too so seems that roof will get new shape, rear arches could get even wider, trunk door is getting more pronounced, side vents seems like getting adjusted shape and door handles are probably taken from 488. Seems that we could get new FF with quite substantial visual changes!
Looks mean! There is something protruding out of the rear trunk. Any guess what it is for? Ski rack? Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
I'm not convinced all that much has changed. The hood over the engine appears to be more sculpted. The front spoiler has definitely changed. But the door handles, for example, are exactly the same. There might be a change do the rear wheel wells but if you line a still from the video up with an existing FF there don't appear to be any significant changes to the roofline or rear end. Of course there is likely something hiding under that the black covering and they might have cleverly shaped it to resemble the existing car. Can't wait to learn more!
The front spoiler will be a bit similar to the new F12 tdf. New headlights. There will be side vents (air outlets) in the front fenders reminiscent of the old 250 TDF. The angle of the rear window will be steeper (at the top extended a bit further back = more headroom or more "station wagon-type"). Entire rear bodywork with taillights will be new. It will have an 8 cylinder Turbo engine. New FF will be presented at Geneva Motor Show March 2016. Marcel Massini
I disagree, the bonnet ridges are an indication of air box changes for the V8, the rear windows are all taped over to hide the monitoring equipment, the wheel arch extentions are to fool thr paparazzi. Apart from a revised front end to accommodate the turbo not much else is changing and March seems optimistic to me.
This doesn't look very different. I'm a fan of the technology in the car but not the current looks. Robb
Thanks for the info. In the video on engine start it sounds remarkably like my V12 FF not a V8 turbo. I have been told there will be a V8T variant but there will still be a V12 version sold alongside it for now.
All in all I am very excited about upcoming FF redesign. I am glad I see a lot of taped (hidden) surfaces. At least it gives hope there will be huge visual change. V12 + some light hybrid tech would be spot on for FF! Its very often used as cruising & DD car, so better fuel efficiency would be welcomed by FF buyers.
FF had horrible selling numbers from its introduction, fairly low profit per car, and shockingly fast depreciation (one of ugliest modern Ferraris, big & thirsty engine). So, I assume they want to increase profit on FF with V8 engine. Future "base" FF with V8 (tuned one from 488) will cost the same as current V12, and new V12 version will be much more expensive. Add to this account that V8 will be much more cheaper for 7yr Ferrari maintenance program. With V8 Ferrari will finally see some serious profit from FF!
I have no idea where you get your figures from or the statement the 'FF had horrible selling numbers' The truth is the number of FFs sold upto second quarter 2015 in the UK is 206 units. The average cost new of a 2012 unit was £260,000. the average selling price achieved in the second quarter of 2015 for a 2012 example was £165,000 showing a true depreciation of 36.5% over 3 + years. Not as you say 'shockingly fast depreciation'. The F12 in comparison sold 258 units upto the second quarter of 2015, at total of 52 more which in comparison is very respectable indeed. Further if you read the accounts you will see Ferrari are not hanging their hat on the V8 FF to revive their profitability but are conceding the fact that sales in the far east are subject to punative taxes on imports particulary anything over 4 litres. upto 100% in places so the V8 makes sense if they wish to continue expanding in Malaya, Singapore, China, and to an extent Russia. Even further, the FF (mine at least) averages 17 -18 mpg on my regular runs to Italy and 12 to 14 around town. Beauty is in the eye of the beholder and given Luca, Lord Marsh, Me and many others are able to see it's beauty is all that is important.
Just type in Google "FF sale numbers" and you will find for yourself. For WHOLE Europe FF sale numbers are: 2011 250; 2012 480; 2013 208; 2014 173; Guess what number we could see at the end of 2015... That is just one more detail we could add to my statement - Ferrari is trying hard to make FF profitable as much as possible since its not profitable currently. Question for you: Do you think Turbo V8 with poor sound will be in F12 anytime soon because of Eastern market Without hybrid stuff V12 is thirsty monster if you drive it properly. I agree about beauty thing, but impression of wider audience is negative. Type in Google Ugliest Ferraris of All Time, and there is no list where FF is not listed. Poor design was and is one of main cause for fast depreciation when it comes to Ferrari. I am aware that you are owner of FF and big fan of that car in every way, but when you take a look on FF as company project its pretty big economic & visual failure for now. Is it practical & amazing for long journeys - absolutely yes! But that is not first association for Ferrari and that is why all dealers have a bunch of FF`s for sale with very attractive discounts (on new and used too).
Maybe they will just do a 'VW' and badge it as a v8 and for test purposes and emissions just run on 8 cylinders then when out on the road give u the full 12. Live in hope. There is no denying the v12 soundtrack is unbeatable.
If Marcel says it will be turbo V8, you can bank on it. Marcel thanks for sharing some information. PS as to sound in the video- Don't get too hung up on this. They often test different variants of cars. They were testing a Scuderial type single F1 SuperFast2 almost right up to the 458 launch for the 458, but the DCT won out. So they could be doing their homework for a V12 version in case they want it. I hear the same thing as Marcel: turbo V8 for new FF. No V12 variant. But who knows? The V12 fan in me would love to see them still offering a V12. I just don't think its likely.
As a Ferrari fan, losing the v12 in the 4 seater range would be a shame. However as an owner having the last N/A V12 4 seater means I will be more likely to hold onto it than upgrade for a v8TT. I already had that from Maranello with a Maserati 3200GT.. Ferrari have to keep a N/A v12 in the f12 replacement I assume? Or will it get a LaFerrari derived hybrid drivetrain and the F12 is the last N/A v12 GT? If so I need to find a way to add one to my stable before its replaced. And a 458. I need more garages....
V12 with hybrid tech could be best solution, but seems that mentioned system is still too expensive for mass-production cars. If they decide to use V8 from 488 for FF, I assume they will tune it pretty easily very close to 700 hp. On other if they decide to play with hybrid stuff, I wonder could they connect hybrid tech to V8 TT?
F12 successor will go Turbo and today's listing is one of the reasons. Then the FF successor will also go turbo but for the FFM, due in 2016, I would imagine they will offer as a TTV8 and n/a V12. If they were to do that, that would be a new direction for them harking back to the old days when they did this for tax reasons for Italy with the 308 series. Another way to get up to 10,000 units
It's all very well suggesting holding on to the current V12 version of the FF, but if you use it as a daily driver, there will come a point where you'll have to replace it with something else. I too am a die hard V12 fan, but know that eventually I may have to move into whichever engine variant is in production just to maintain a sensible daily driver option.
