    Guys

Has anybody got any experience of bolster repair on a 458? I'm looking at purchasing a 2012 Spider, but the bolster on the drivers side has some wear. Car has only 3.5K miles, rest of the leather looks good...

Question: How good a fix can be performed (By a professional), can colors be matched sufficiently to not be noticeable (I am fussy)- Marks seem to be at surface and not deep.

    Thanks for any feedback

That can easily be repaired and matched by a professional. I just had it done on my daily and you would never know it was repaired.

It was caused by his belt. It will happen again unless you learn how to get into the car without damaging the leather.

Before you get in put your left hand on the bolster in the wear area and as you rotate into the seat your ass and belt rubs against your hand and not the leather. I have 7000 miles on my 13 Spider and not a mark on the bolster and that also goes for my 89 930 Porsche turbo.

Also suggest moving the seat entirely back when getting in and out and then readjusting when sat in

Thanks all, timely thread for me also. Same damage, car has only 2500 miles. Not caused by me, but I have to learn how to get in and out or it’ll just get worse.

    I will get it fixed.

On top of watching how you get in and out, the dryness of the leather matters. I'd start using leather conditioner.

I've had good success with leather honey, but it does darken the leather a little bit. I wouldn't use it on light brown unless you are OK with a darker color.

Also, I apply it, and let it set for two hours, then check again. If the leather has dried out over the two hours, then I apply again and repeat that process until the leather stops absorbing the leather honey. Then I wipe it up and call it a day. Living in Texas, this has to be done to the Porsche, Mercedes and Ferrari, but I get to drive my cars nearly all year long as a tradeoff.

Great thread -- I'm looking at a 458 with the same problem and wasn't sure how to deal with it.
