I got my 1/8 GT40 engine from Fein Design a couple days ago. It's absolutely insane. It is dense, hard plastic, not resin. No flash, no mold lines and it is packaged very well.

This kit puts the large manufactured kits to shame. I really can't say enough about it. I paid a little over $500 including shipping from Germany and it's worth every penny and more.

When I have time I will lay everything out and take pictures and do a better review.

Nice. I wish they would do a 1/8 Ferrari engine.

I actually asked the guy who did the master for the GT40 motor about doing an F40 engine and he said his biggest trouble was access to enough material to accurately do a Ferrari engine. He said Ferrari engines in general are hard to get the material he needs.

MFH Porsche 917LH 1971 in 1/12th to add to the already done 1970 LH with earlier style body. I am still waiting for the 917K in 1/12th. Judging by the poor recent 1/18th scale models some of you might be switching over to these 1/12th scale kits soon:). The CMC 250 GTO is total rubbish with knockoffs that look like they came off a Tonka toy.

By the way, after looking over the 1/12th Hiro 250 GTO, in general it is pretty well shaped, and a hell of a lot better than the Revell 1/12th model. They did make the flaring on the rear wheel to high up and the rear fender/tail is not 100% correct but it is close. The main fix I will do are the flares as it really makes wheels look small and the car ride height look wrong.

Not sure if I will build the SMP 24 365 GT 2+2. Not my favorite Ferrari. And that Fein Design motor does look amazing. Looks like a big project to build with all the screws.

more than enough available through dealers and internet.

Despite it is a beautifull modell, its not and will not become very rare..
A wellbuilt example on the other hand... will be rare.

Very true. They will reissue. They will still be 10 times rarer that anything CMC does a diecast of.

How many kits does MFH make of each 1/12 model? A lot more than Minidelta for sure

No idea how many, but if you want one, its no problem finding one with some patience.
If the numbers were low, like minidelta, I would have certainly bought them, now I am patient for a good price..

what do you think would be a realistic price for a well built / professionally built example?

Depends on builder and quality. Great name up to 5000 euro.. If you buy one by a known builder it will keep its value..

That's kind of a weird comment. There is a lot of technical information on the internet about Ferrari engines including diagrams and photos of nearly every component. Just look in the F40 restoration threads and the information is all there. Same thing for the vintage engines.

Pocher made a 1/8 F40 engine a while back that can be purchased. I'd like to see a 1/8 scale 250 engine.

Thank you Hans for your rating. And what if the builder is a 'Nobody'?
I seriously think about refinancing my hobby a little bit, with building two models of each. One for me and one for refinancing.

This is my standard I achieved over the years:

Its not that an unknown builder is a "nobody". Its just that they are not known as an artist. I know several builders that keep their work private but deliver topquality. Make your name by making pieces people talk about...post them, if its really good you will be noted...and thats a start

There are a few that really show off: imho those are Klaus Göpfert, Patrice De Conto, Steve Barnett, Michel Stassart, Stephane Dufrene and Paolo Devodier. And some of them only built scale models from scratch; no MFH, AMR, MG is being used as a base kit.

Check out a Devodier 1/12 and compare to a Amalgam 1/8 ART vs CHINA MASS....do I need to say more :)

there are more.... Marshall (lusso123) is phenomenal, Frederic Suber, in 1:43 (my area ;-) there are several specialists.. Alberca, Bosica (no longer builds), Joe Blanche, Brauer, Laurent Tay, Peter Wingfield, Jean Paul Magnette, Claude Cordina, Maichael Craig.. etc etc... and don't forget the very talented DarkStar (Juan Madrazo) from Spain!
Then There is Asia, Chan Rosso, Inaba, Kamimura, Nomura.. etc etc

The "artisans" are special kind of people..

I must say that Devodier work is simply out of this world!!! Man, i love to watch and drool over his models, and above all, he builds my favourite ones, sports cars from the 60 and seventies....they are so amazing.....

I agree, but I find the Military modelers are a lot better in general with a few exceptions, even non pro. And this is just the latest 1/32nd and 1/24th airplane builds on this site wich are smaller than most car model scales. You should see some of the figure and tank builders.......... Almost makes me want to go to a IPMS national show just to see the builds.

I can"t afford $4K to have a top shelf model built; buying the CMC is the next best option , inaccuracies and all.
