    It's not going to work. It's not the exhaust, but the engine. You can make it loud, but it just won't scream. Lawn mowers are also loud.
    And complete aftermarket exhaust is not 5-8k, the total is close to USD 20k.

    Looking at the configurator, there is an exhaust sport system available for the 488. I'm not talking about the sport tail pipes.

    Not sure if the configurator in Europe is different, but there is no exhaust option of any type on the US configurator, not even the sport tips.

    In some Asian countries, they like the 488, because the engine is much smaller, so the tax is MUCH cheaper. They get a bad sound but very good bargain.
    In North America, we don't pay cheaper for turbocharged. So we have to get used to a super car that does't sound like a super car. Speed cannot be exchanged with sound. In just few months, Beetle, Corvette, Mclaren, and even some SUV will add boost on their turbocharged, and everybody will run as fast as 488. So far I haven't seen these guys could make something that could match the sound produced by Ferrari's NA-V8. But now, Ferrari is in the same level with these guys.

    It's the turbos, not the engine. Smaller V8s actually sound sweeter than larger ones in general. But higher redline probably trumps size.

    You will be able to get a muffler for 5-8k, which is all it will take to make it louder. If you want to do downpipes, etc, then you are getting into more money.

    Corvettes are supercharged...and have been having big problems blowing engines. You can't "add boost" without physically changing hardware to my knowledge. They run off pulleys of a fixed size, not a turbo with an adjustable wastegate based on ECU programing. The experience is not even comparable. It's a big, lazy motor. Great tool, but totally different.

    The McLaren's definitely don't sound better to my ear. Certain models might be in the same league, but not better. Then it comes down to styling, quality, heritage, etc.

    Most modern Lysholm style compressors, use a valve to partly control the boost, i.e, keep a constant boost level. Two examples are Eaton and Whipple superchargers + a lot OEM stuff. They can also be added to "old-school" Roots style blower setups, sometimes seen in powerboats able to run 93 and 116 octane fuel etc. They are also found on centrifugal compressor setups. When chipping a car like e.g, an Audi S6 with the 3.0 V6, a Corvette C6 ZR1, C7 Z06, Hellcat, Mustang and many others, up to a certain point, the control of this valve is what is used to raise the boost. That being said, at some point a pulley change is needed.

    Compared to turbochargers, there are a few different reliability issues with belt driven superchargers. A common issue on high performance supercharged engines, is the vibration in the belt, which in turn sends vibrations through the crank, which makes the bearings wear a lot faster, and sometimes fail.

    on straight line 488 will be as fast as tesla, very fast but both cars without italian sound :(

    There is no different exhaust system available, even though the configurator has the 'sports exhaust system' option.
    'Titanium exhaust' stands for titanium tail pipes, 'sports exhaust system' stands for black tail pipes. On the official options list it is listed as 'sport tail pipes in Nero'.

    It was the same thing for the California T and 599 and so on, where the 'sport exhaust system' meant other pipes and that's it.

    Btw, the final production cars are louder, sound more aggressive and higher pitched over the first preproduction car. Don't judge it from some videos. Drive behind it and get your real life impression.

    I haven't judged anything anywhere. I'm looking forward to get behind the wheel of a 488. All I'm saying is, that to me, it looked like they offered an actual sport exhaust, like they've done in the past. I haven't spoken to my dealer about it, nor have I seen the actual options list yet.

    Please refrain from assuming I'm one of those, constantly chanting the same old tiresome song about how dreadful the sound is. I don't belong in that choir. I like what I've heard so far, and the thought of it being more aggressive etc. just makes it even better.

    What is the source of this info?
    I have driven the 488 GTB on Hungaroring during Ferrari Racing Days. The car is very capable. Much better brakes than italia. It is fast and goes effortlessly. That's the problem I felt with the car. Also the car I test drove was hitting the rev limiter @7500 rpm.

    I think it's going to be epic. The only question I have is, is it going to be distinguished enough in relation to the 458 to justify the premium.

    I made these experiences by myself with several 488's so far - they are going over 7500 in manual.
    The first one I drove was very tamed compared to the actual cars, which are screaming a lot. Driving behind a 488 in race mode is a real pleasure. Even though it is a question of personal taste when it comes to the sound of spooling turbos, the 488 is a quite new experience and I guess there won't be many who would miss their 458's after driving the GTB.

    Ferrari is still very strong brand so I am sure they will not get hurt with poor turbo sound. However, I agree that they made something other brands couldn't - pack aesthetics, performance & SOUND in one product.

    Did you think the 488 you drove on the Hungaroring was slower or faster than the 458

    I have also been informed the SPORTS EXHAUST SYSTEM option for the 488 is an actual system not just a different tailpipe finish as the titanium option is, I believe this is also reflected in the price list with the former being a healthy chunk more. We'll wait and see.
