You know this because you know all 918 owners as well as every LaF and P1 owners? Plenty of videos of Laf and P1 at the track (SPA, Castellet, Anglesey to name a few)..

That will be great to watch, but the conditions seem to be quite damp/wet. I assume 918 with 4WD will have a significant lead off the mark.

    Cant wait anyway. ;)

Apolo did you or any of the other owners had some kind of pressure from the three companies telling you, you couldn't do it or next exclusive model will not be sold to you?
I have even heard Ferrari told their La Ferrari customers that if they did the comparison they could forget about service and support to their cars which is Illegal.

I can understand Ferrari if they don't want offer TrofeoR on Lafe: it's a 1000hp road legal car, and sometimes rains... but I cannot understand why not Michelin SC2 :( (also avaible on F12)

It's been proven that the Trofeo is 1 sec per min quicker compared to the Cup 2. The Cup 2 is 1/2 sec/min faster than the Corsa.

    LaFerrari is on Corsa.

    918 is on Cup 2.

    P1 is on Trofeo.

In following this discussion, I am surprised to find plenty of comments on P1 Trofeo tires while there are no comments on the 918 wheels. Magnesium wheels on the Weissach version have advantages, mainly on track (not for mass savings per se, but because of reduction of unsprung mass), but also disadvantages in the daily use of the car. I don’t find any difference with the Trofeo tires (optimized for track use, but to be used with prudence on open (wet) roads).

The black 918 used in the drag race comparison is not the Weissach package and has the regular wheels. I haven't seen much difference in performance between the WP and non WP 918s to date.

I know what you mean though, when we arrived it looked more like an ice hockey pitch, than a drag strip. Its a sealed surface, as such any dust rubber etc, just sits on the top.

The way the light reflects on it gives the impression of being wet imv, but its not....

There should be some difference but that's mostly due to the lightness of the wheels, shouldn't be a great difference in a straight line, maybe a car length or two over a standing km. Either or the car is certainly quick as hell. Porsches in general astound me I raced a 991 turbo s in my 458 the other day and it smoked me lol. I don't know if they underrate their engines consistently or not but the thing was super car fast.

If you tick all the WP options, then the total saving is 41kg. But by the time you add the must haves back on the actual saving comes down to about 16kg, 14g of these being the wheels......don't feel this amount would make a difference in a line......

Why are they must haves? If you want the lightest possible direct from Porsche, you can spec the lightest possible.

Million dollar cars need all options, imo. That's reason to get wp whether worthwhile or not

I don't check this thread often, but a few weeks ago I had the privilege of speaking at length with a few gentlemen who've had what you would call a fair amount of time behind the wheel of all the Big Three - inluding their more obcure competitors from the niche manufacturers.

For the sake of putting things into context, I spoke with them all individually at a race and it was a coincidence we met. I've never driven any of the cars, but I'll relay their thoughts briefly below...

What they all agreed on was that objectively the 918 is the best car, handling wise and when it comes to the interior trim. The sound with the tailpipes (being so close to the driver) was just manic according to them...

The P1 was a lot of fun, but they all said it only really comes alive on the edge, the limit. It's an edgy car to drive fast once you reach that narrow performance envelope, and due to the extreme performance you can't experience that feeling of playfullness on the road - unless of course you are on a deserted part of familiar tarmac with no fear of losing your license.

LaFerrari - Funnily enough, it's the car we talked the least about. I remember one of them saying "It's the one you'd really want, isn't it?". Also said to be probably the most exciting to drive on the road. Powertrain wise more responsive than the 918, and again that indistinguishable Ferrari character.

We did not get anal about numbers, lap times, sprints etc. I wanted to pick these guys about how the cars felt to them. Didn't post this in an attempt to "settle" or "prove" anything, perhaps other than the fact that their experiences highlighted the point that these cars represent their own and unique 3 different approaches.

BTW, these gentlemen are in the process of making a big shootout film, and not just with the Big Three...
