A worthy insight into the 456 copied from

I just tried the FHP steering ecu upgrade by Maranello Skunkworks / wow! The 456M is glued to the road now, well worth it for those more performance inclined! It adjusts the assist as speed increases and makes the feel more 575 like or better. The 456M is definitely a tight machine and agree with above.

Does anyone know if the upgrade is available for the earlier 456, or is it just for the 455m?

Just the 456M and Maranellos now. Check with MSW's Dave and John to see if there is anything they can do with a 456 ECU.

If someone would want to send us an earlier ECU, I'd be happy to have a look at it and see what we can do with it.

I've never even seen one of the earlier ones, but we're always up for a challenge :)

PM me for a shipping address.

Sorry for the rudimentary question, but does MSW have a website or does everyone just know what is offered?

I had the same question, no website, just PM one of the MSW folks and they will email you a list of what they offer.

Sorry, no website; we're just enthusiasts like most everyone here.

Dave & I give away most of our ideas that are true DIY type projects and sell a few bits now & then like the steering ECU's, floppy visor fixes, and ignitions, that require more resources than most DIY'ers have.

I've gone over so many parts of my '02 456M and consider it FULLY sorted and it runs and drives Fantastic, but I've not had the cause or familiarity with issues of valve guides, fuel pump and engine mounts.

Are these things with which I need to concern myself??

They aren't anything to really 'concern' yourself about Moe. Aside from the valve guides, the rest is just maintenance and repairs.

Moe If there isnt any noticable oil usage there isnt a problem. Mine was very obvious bothe usage and smoke.
    Any pictures of you 456?

Just looking at Pistonheads and the cheapest RHD manual is 60k pounds and the dearest at 88k. The floor seems to be rising over there for our beloved 456's, although the 88k example was on the market for $105k about 3 months ago, and it seems it must not have sold. :(

I've upgraded/replaced every inch of my car but never the engine mounts or fuel pump or valves.

My valves seem to have no issues- I have 22k on the clock and she runs really really Super- I couldn't be Happier

The engine mounts and fuel pumps are issues on these cars? I'm only hearing about the mounts these last few weeks. And the fuel pump I've not heard of until now

Please someone elaborate on these issues and if I should address them now or don't bother unless an issue occurs

    Thanks

Moe, the engine mounts aren't an 'issue' as such. They just suffer failure due to their original design. It doesn't cause any problems aside from harshness, of course, and they should be replaced with the later 575 mounts, which are an updated design and give longer life. The fuel pump issue is relating to the rubber mounting grommets that hold the fuel pumps in place in the canister assy. Again, it is a time/deterioration issue and one that should be addressed when it arises.
