In fairness to the TR I think it was a legitimate comparison car, I think the DD was simply seen as much more 'hard-core'.

This test for example shows that the TR was at least in the same class, but over time its become apparent which car 'drivers' prefer.

Stefano Pasini, the Godfather of Lamborghini historians (who some of us view as the historian who inspired us) published a great book on the variant

This is my car, which was purchased by Alpine. Very cool Joe. I have some fantastic notes for you with the Alpine executives when you write your book.

This is the magazine that got me. The article came out on my 15th birthday. I found it in my high school library, which had a subscription. I was transfixed by this article. Every photo burned into my brain. To this day I can almost recite this entire article by heart.

Same here...I was 15 when that C&D article came out, I still own that magazine now. I drug that magazine from the southern Caribbean to Canada to all over the US, it is VERY well traveled and still intact ever after 31 years!

    Very cool!

Interesting to note on Page 1 with the exterior photos, the rear shot shows a car with the USA rear bumper cover.

Without side-markers, that would be a car destined for the Middle East. They used whatever was in the yard!

As far as Lamborghini is concerned, the Miura had a Downdraft carburetor application as I noted in my first post.

For example, a number of Ferrari competition cars of the 50s & 60s had this application, so it wasn't new when the Countach DD used it (in fact it was practically obsolete by then), it was more a case of tried & true, proven, so to speak.

I note that the first Lamborghini V12 was deigned having a DD carburetor application and the Miura used the same, with the application of Sidedraft carbs simply to accommodate lower sleeker silhouettes.

Others may have additional input, but I wouldn't read too much into any of this as car companies generally do what is convenient & cost-effective!

I'll have to get this updated version! I bought mine back in the early-80s, and as you can tell, it only covered the variants through the 5000S.
