They sure aren't giving me negative lift right now.

All 7 pieces of the underbody aero panels prepped for refinishing. NO, that is not where they will be painted, just a test layout. Next week I should have the right weather to mix up this 2-Part Polyurethane marine paint, get this job done, and the car back together again. Can't wait to be back on the road.

You could paint it there just cover up everything you don't want overspray to get on haha

So whats special about the paint?

there is nothing special about the paint used on the under panels....any flat black acrylic enamel will suffice.

Actually, the factory pieces were not painted at all, but had semi gloss black Gel Coat in the original molds with the fiberglass layup. This 2-part urethane was the hardest finish paint I could find to maximize durability for use under the car.

But yes, you could use any paint and it would look the same, at least for awhile.

I repaired all my under body panels (fiberglassed the cracks) about 5 years ago and sprayed them all in dupont acrylic enamel.....the only area where paint has been removed is where I have bottomed out and scraped the ground while driving on a rough road at speed after a recent incident a month ago.
To that end I have to repair/fiberglass the front panel again :( .

It is not my intention to put down anyones paint choice, and there are many fine products on the market.

However, while I'll also point out this 2-part polyurethane really is a pain to use, I have to give it a strong recommendation for any car part other than finish body work that you need to paint but can't powder coat. After curing, it is the hardest paint finish I have seen. I scrubbed on it with rubbing compound as hard as I could and nothing came off at all. Amazing strength and adherence in my book.

I was just replacing my O2 sensors and have some slight repair work that needs to be done to my panels. Great info and now I know I am ready.

I was just replacing the battery tender eyelets and noticed the undertray under it needs work. A lot of the panels need work. I guess this winter :(

Anybody have a source for Styrofoam that I can shape to some of the edges to hold the matt until the epoxy hardens?

Wow this gets the "clean machine" rating.
Mine needs washing, but every day it is clear ...... and I go to pull it out of the garage the damn thing takes me for a drive instead.
