That's right, Brambilla did try it as well. Both in Marches, rather interesting. So you hung out in an Omega and I did the same in a Nova! I guess we were kindred spirits.
Remembering Watkins Glen '76 (see reply #182), I decided early on to stay in my motel room in Seguin on Saturday and watch qually on TV. I was not surprised when it eventually got cancelled and was glad that I did not make the trip. Maybe when I was younger I might have gone anyway but it turned out to be the right decision. In Seguin it was raining when I got up on Saturday and never stopped all day long and into the night.
Had the best backup plan. Just incase there was no race. See photo I am going to iPhone store tomorrow and getting this sideways stuff fixed. Had enough Image Unavailable, Please Login
Had a great time as always..... Though I made a mistake bringing the old cheap cabelas lol.....These guys had been through a lot for nearly a decade, mainly west texas desert. COTA was just too much though lol....Had wet feet for about 5 hours but racing is racing and I have to see it no matter what..... Image Unavailable, Please Login
I was a little surprised that after 4 years (I have been every year) COTA has not built any more infrastructure, no additional paved waking paths have been laid, and very few places for spectators to seek shelter from the elements, and no additional restrooms.
Despite the rain...we had a blast. Thanks Big Tex for showing us around. Great shots! Anytime, those were great seats you had, at T15. We went back there and watched the race from the Wheelchair spots, at the very top. Valeria really liked being able to turn around and see all that way back to T1! For race day the Stadium People really started checking tickets closely. At the wheel chair ramp, two cigarettes turned GA into VIP Grandstand!
+1 Those were the days!..... We used to sneak in thru the "country" (over the fence) at Brands, wander on round and often kind of "slide" thru the tunnel into the pits. Dunno if I'd have the balls (or the technology!) these days, but we once BS'd our way right on in with a (used!) set of F3 tires that we convinced the marshal were needed *right now* by some random F1 team. Very, very rarely did we pay to get in to Brands! Cheers, Ian PS - Glad the puppy's OK.
Thanks!! It works against me, at COTA with the paid workers, Stadium People, as we all rode the same 6AM bus in, all those years. I would be imitating Sir Stewart: "It's a GREAAAAT day, for motor racing!" And that early in the morning, they would throw banana peels at me....
These days, you get a photo of this on Day 1, and have it on your car by race day!! That would let you in to Sir Elton's Green Room.....not that there would be any fun, to that...... Image Unavailable, Please Login
Crazy storm damage at COTA this weekend. Good thing the race was a week ago. Photos courtesy of Greg Stevens Full gallery: https://www.facebook.com/media/set/?set=a.1156342614380282.1073742017.157330087614878&type=3

Well, thankfully a lot of that damage is to the rental systems. And those fabric roofs are never going to survive the tornadoe activity of last weekend. The failure of that tunnel retaining wall is troubling, as that's structural (and also because I walked across it, leaving after F1!).... But mud is mud.....that tunnel should have had drainage relief though, I'll have to check the blueprints...
I guess I should finish up my photos, truthfully, the fans had stomped the whole place back into it's natural state...a cow pasture! Top that, with the Closed Lots parking confusion, on race day...as I left there were cars and trucks that had literally jumped every available curb, only to sink to the axles!! Saturday...we waited and waited, and it rained and rained.... Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login
Fire Department, checking RADIATION levels!!! They came by at least 20 times...I guess ISIS does not do too well, in the rain. Image Unavailable, Please Login
