I don't see how he can say the 488 sounds better than the 458. No evidence in his review. First poorly done segment I've seen Chris produce.
Drive mine with the top down except when raining which is rare here indeed. We have the top up/down feature while underway on the Pcar. Have used it a few times but not having it would not be a deal killer. The video car sounded good but doesnt sound as good as my 458 spider with the baffles unplugged. Want to drive one myself.
If he doesn't say something sweet, next time he won't be able to review a new launched Ferrari. Actually he better says something that makes more sense, like it sounds good but don't compare it with NA car. It's like nobody ever driven the 488.
Agree, Jethro Bovingdon on his EVO review probably got a big slap on the hands when he said the 488 was quicker but just not as majical as the Speciale, missing feel of NA motor, and the sound of the 488 was just OK.
I think Chris Harris' mentioned in his 458 review that he didn't love the sound and I think he mentioned the same thing with the Speciale. I don't think they get penalized too much for a few criticisms here and there- they get penalized for really negative reviews and if the car doesn't come out on top. I take all the reviews with a grain of salt but its still fun to watch and I look forward to watching this one!
Pretty boring review. No excitement. Just sort of a "ho hum" drive as an excuse to escape bad weather. Yawn. P.S. - Do you think it would have been such a non-event if he were driving an Aperta??!!! I think not...
I think it was a good review where he shows what a typical 488 Spider would likely encounter. I also think he said anything too controversial about the sound. I think the 488 sound has very good tones to it, but its clear to me that it suffers from turbo muffle- theres really no way around that. Either way, the added stiffness, the great looks, more power. Its another winner. And that Blu Corsa is a great color!
Yep. Ho hum. No enthusiasm. Have not followed CH for any more than a couple of years but cant recall when he raved about any roadster. He did buy an FF. And burned alot of rubber in an F12. Just dont think CH is a guy that likes convertibles very much. Guess it was better than driving a coupe in the rain back home. Poor baby.
+1 Chris Harris was banned by Ferrari a few years ago and the only way he could drive one is by asking a friend. Now, he's a "nice" guy again and they let him borrow a Ferrari again. Completely biased review. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk
He got banned for criticising how Ferrari operate, not for saying the cars were rubbish. All through that episode he consistently said the cars were brilliant. In fact, that was his point at the time - the cars are so good that they don't need to be so heavy handed all the time. So, no, he hasn't changed his tune just to get int their good books.
Well... he did accuse Ferrari of cheating on their test cars on a rant that was a bit over the top and carried world wide (thanks to the haters at Jalopnik). It's not surprising that Ferrari juices the cars for the press (duh!) but implying only they did it was what fried Ferrari. He was in Luca's sin bin. When Ferrari needed Harris back, they got him back. If they didn't need Harris, he'd never drive another Ferrari again. That means... Harris won the battle but Ferrari showed it's muscle-- thereby winning the war. That being said, I don't think it influences Harris' reviews. I just think he didn't care about this one at all. He looks bored in a car that most of the world would DIE to drive just once. Not good for him. I don't care if you screw 1000 super models. It's still with -- a super model!
Can you point out what makes this biased? Your assumption that it is biased, does not make it so. I can't see what he does or say, that make it biased. He has been critical about Ferrari in the past and sometimes still is. He liked the 458, but he had his points where he did not like it. He does not seem like he's out to please anyone. Chris Harris seems to have a lot of contacts in the exotic car world, I don't think he needs Ferrari to get behind the wheel of a 488 - or any other Ferrari for that matter. He can take it or leave it if he so wishes. Sooner or later he will get behind the wheel of a Huracan spider and an SV as well. For all we know he may already have been so off camera.
1. I've been reading/watching Chris Harris' car reviews since he started at Autocar magazine. He's always been one of my favorite car journalists together with Steve Sutcliffe. But since he started his own YouTube channel, his reviews are boring and lack of feel. Before, I would easily vision how a car would be by watching his reviews. This doesn't happen any more. 2. I have driven a 488 back to back with my 458. The 488 is a FANTASTIC car but it is light years away with regard to engine sound and pure thrill of driving. It is just my personal opinion. I always enjoy his reviews too. I have a 488 coupe coming. If I don't like it I can always sell it and buy another 458. There are hundreds for sale. I think it sounds great.
LOL! Chris Harris is bored. Driving too many P1's and LaFerrari's will do that. I think it's time for Mr. Harris to move on... Drifting is so 2001.
As a British, i can understand why he praise the Mclaren like every other UK magazine Porsche and Mac are always his favourites....nothing interesting from his review nowadays
