I'm not saying that; I'm saying that they analyzed his soft tires he drove the first half of the race on, and that only 10% life was left, as an indication of what was in store for him on the mediums, longer stint but lighter fuel load.

You know I was thinking that after that happened. Why is so easy to puncture these tires? I guess it gives you reason to avoid each other... it's not NASCAR... but still.

The other think I was thinking is that if they didn't have these old outdated 13 inch rims there would be this huge vulnerable sidewall. Go to 19 or 20 inch rims with lower profile tires and there'd be less of this race ending events. It shouldn't cost you the race because 20 cars are trying to cram through turn 1 and you bump a bit. Hopefully, modern wheel and tire sizes will be part of the 2017 specification redo.

Got it. That makes sense. Hamilton was down to canvas so I'm certain their moves were simply proactive.

Yup. They managed to create a big enough gap over the rest to go to plan B (2 stop). Had Vettel been there, they wouldn't have had the luxury of doing so. Plan A was their 1 stop to cover for Vettel; The ferrari uses it's tires a bit better so a 1 stop could have resulted in a win if Mercs tires fell off or they did a 2 stop.

With Vettel gone it was too easy.

No question. Perez held off Grosjean and Verstappen with much older tires.

They blew COTA figures away.......and yes, COTA is trending downward, year over year.

Of course it could be argued that a number of attendees went here rather than COTA, but I spoke with several Mexican fans at COTA that were doing both.

    Tavo's Revenge.

Plus there will be two Mexicans in F1 next year; attendance should be even stronger.

Verstappen apparently had to turn down his engine as it was over heating...explains why he wasn't all over Perez.

There has to be a reason that the event in Mexico is so much more popular than the event in Austin.

Ticket prices? Overall costs of travel? Promotion?

Pent up market..no race there for many years.

Maybe better PROMOTION, as that was Tavo's role at COTA before going under the bus....

Competition is soccer and bull fights.

Competition in Austin is a Blues bar down the street, (or UT games) but at least in the Blues bar they are NICE to you!

But the US is 5 times larger in population and has a much more disposable income compared to Mexico.

That makes me believe it's either promotion, a lack of interest in F1 in America, and the location / cost.

Promotion can be fixed (albeit with a lot of money which means more sponsorship money which is limited by item #2).
Lack of interest in F1 is Bernie's problsm (not easy to fix)
Location and cost is a problem of putting COTA in Austin in the first place.

An American team might help if its not a joke. I'm always shocked that most American race fans have no idea that America used to have drivers and even a team in F1 back in it's early days

Perhaps the most beautiful car ever built in F1 was American and driven by an American. Yet almost no one knows about it. Who's fault is that?

Why? Rosberg was leading start to finish...It was not the pit stop that brought him first, he was already there. To write "the decision dropped Hamilton back behind Rosberg" is just wrong as he was there anyway without the stops...

Let´s see it the other way round: let´s imagine Rosberg would have done the stop as requested and Hamilton stayed out. Although it is most likely with the safety car that Rosberg would have still won we imagine Hamilton would have won...Then everybody including Rosberg would say rightfully that Mercedes brought Hamilton in front on purpose showing favourism. So the team perfectly equaled the strategy to get out of all these discussions and have the drivers fight out on the track rather than in the pit lane and still they get complains.
Or imagine they would have called nobody in despite having enough lead over the third and the tyre would have blown like Vettels in Spa: again people would point fingers on them.

For me it looks like whatever they would have done, they only could loose in one or the other way.

I doubt that this race result was set up - just as I doubt that any previous result was set up (IMHO). And in case it was set up :), it's a team sport and a team can have their drivers finish in the order the team thinks is in its best interests.

    FIA needs to investigate?

    Please get real bob.

Even if it is (neither Rosberg or Hamilton really HAD to stop, but had the luxury to do it), who really cares? Calm your panties...

Fact of the matter is, both Merc drivers get their knickers in a significant twist when things aren't 100% identical; so if Rosberg pits, by pure logic Hamilton had to pit as well otherwise they had to deal with angry (insert driver).

Was it hamilton that pitted, and Rosberg went on and won the race like that...Hamilton would be furious and at all states (as would Rosberg if roles where reversed)

Forza Nico as far as I'm concerned, about time he had the luck, and the car, to win one. Hopefully he might win the last two as well, unless he comes second to vettel, which would of course be preferable but seemingly unlikely

I don't think there is a rule anymore against team orders, wasn't that dissolved in 2011? If so, the teams can do almost anything they want.
