Well. It's not publishing in general. With fiction book it seems to work. I'm a Stephen King fan and the publishers are spot-on with their publishing dates.
And many other fiction publishers too.

    Best Regards

Merci, Patrick. I have one of those and am still waiting for the other.

Did you order N.A.R.T. directly from Veloce? Please give us your impressions of the book.

Jack, I bought the book directly from a french bookseller but I suppose I can't explain here.

My first impressions are absolutely good.

After a first chapter about Chinetti, we found different chapters about the years 1957-58, 1959-61, 1962-64, 1965, 1966-69, 1970-72, 1973-74, 1975, 1976-77, 1978-80, 1981-83, an other about spyder and the last is a statistical review.
Many pictures are unknown to me.

NART book arrived today from UK supplier Hiva, priced at an attractive GBP39.35.

No chance to start reading it yet but it seema nicely produced. My only comments are that some photos are rather small and the illustrations in the chapter on the 275 GTB4 Spyder are both, in fact, of the 250 GT based Nembo Spyder.

Terry spent time with Coco Chinetti but as I think was reported elsewhere, the latter said that he was not is favour of the book being written....

I look forward to the views of our experienced reviewers.

    John,

I couldn't find a web site for a bookseller called Hiva. Can you post a link?

    Thank you.

I have it and read it. I am VERY disappointed. a BIG CHANCE MISSED.
Seems to me it was done very quick and with an attempt to leave out anything about Chinetti Sr. and especially Chinetti Jr., most probably to avoid any legal problems. It is basically just a listing and description of the NART race results in chronological order. Zero about Chinetti Motors etc. A shame.
    Just my 2 Cents.

Thanks, Marcel. That is quite disappointing. Just about anybody with sufficient time and resources can write about the races and the cars. After all, most of that history has already been recorded somewhere. It takes much more to write about the people and the behind-the-scenes.

For the $50 that Amazon charges for the book I suppose I'll go ahead and buy a copy, but your review has certainly diluted some of the anticipation!

    Jack.

I too am sorry to hear that the book sucks... On a more positive note, I noticed that it is actually in stock and available here, for a few dollars less when Amazon's sales tax is factored in:

Thanks. I guess we'll never get a comprehensive unbiased story about N.A.R.T. I'm sure Coco could do a great book, but it certainly wouldn't be unbiased about certain matters.

Hi, thanks for the VERY short book review. There is so much to tell about the Chinetti's going back to the 1930s and up thru the NART days.Maybe next time. How about it Marcel. tonga's crew

I went ahead and cancelled my Amazon order and reordered from Book Depository. Even after Marcel's comments I figure there's probably something in the book for me to learn. :)

Let us know, if there are at least nice and unknown pictures. After Marcel's review I postponed my order till the first bargain or good used copies are out there.
Thank you Marcel. You saved me some money.
The main reason, why I put it onto my amazon wishlist, was my curiosity about the NART history regarding the men. Therefore I cringed, when I read Marcel's review.

    Best Regards from Germany

I considered that strategy, but the book is already pretty severely discounted. But I imagine you will be able get it for about $25 in a few months.

    Guys

I want to make it very clear that I in no way wanted to say anything really bad or negative about the new NART book. However, I really have to say that for me, and I am clearly a bit over-informed and (with approx 2'000 Ferrari books in my Ferrari library) probably slightly above the average Ferrari book buyer/reader/collector, the book is disappointing. I expected, for example, new background information about Chinetti Senior, the man himself. I also wanted to read and learn much more about the financial supporters of NART, Jan DeVroom, George Arents, etc. Plus I wanted to see pix of the various Chinetti headquarters/buildings in NY and CT. I also wanted to see and read about the fabulous little 206 Dino GT which NART raced at Sebring 1969. Plus good and clear photos of the key people, from the two Chinettis to Mrs Chinetti to DeVroom, Arents, Baus, Fritz, Iori, Sicard, Pedretti, Sparling, et al. Nothing in the book.
Yes, surely and clearly I am very spoiled and biased. I am fully aware of that. But I think a big chance was missed here. Terry O'Neill, who is a really nice man and excellent researcher, did some really good and nice books (Bahamas Speed Weeks, TX/South FL racing, etc.) and with a fantastic subject of "NART", the most important Ferrari race team, so much more could have been done. I know it is easy to criticize. But I really expected more, much more. In my own archive I have dozens of NART documents and hundreds of previously unpublished great old bw photos of NART entered cars. I think a true bible should/could have been made. Maybe the author was massively hindered/slowed down by Chinetti Junor? To me it looks like somebody made an excel sheet with all the Ferraris entered by NART and then just commented more or less each car, race by race. But not more. Just my 2 cents, thanks for listening.

Thanks, Marcel. It's difficult to imagine a serious history of NART without talking about George Arents, Wayne Sparling, Francoise Sicard, Franco Genesi, and many other that you mentioned.

May I ask, did the author even seek permission to have access to your archives?

No, nobody asked me. Zero, nada, nothing.

I had known about the NART book project for years. Today's result looks to me like somebody wanted to produce something quickly and not with the intention to put together a really superb and fantastic massive and ultimate NART & Chinetti bible. I also believe that the author was massively hindered in the project.
Again: just my own 2 cents. I do not say that I could have done a better job. But having completed three of my own Ferrari books (since 1982, when I was just 25) I think I am qualified a bit and have some experience. Maybe my expectations were too high.

I have heard this time and time again with Coco. What is his issue with all of this? Is it the allegations of "dirty" trade practices, tax evasion, homosexuality (De Vroom and Arents), or something else?

There were 99 of these printed and I have #33. As part of the "Ferrari the Golden Years 1947-1967" collection I am trying to get a price for these two volumes as part of an appraisal being done done for insurance on the collection. Anyone have any ideas. I can find nothings on the internet about this. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks tonga's crew

You might see if booksellers like Horton's, V12 Books or some of the Ferrari literature specialists have it, and use their prices as a valuation. Or ABE Books, eBay, etc.
