I'm the editor in chief of a group of luxury publications. Generally I have writers who we send to do the stories but sometimes you just have to do them yourself..editor's privilege. Strangely this happens with all the supercar reviews of one of my magazines. (When I was younger and single, it was model castings..) But they are not motoring magazines. Ferraris way more fun than model castings. Though it's not just Ferraris.
Very interesting and fortunate for you to be able to have access to all those Ferraris (and other cars). Clyde Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk
On the topic of market prices, I was surprised that Steve McQueen's old 911T used in the film Le Mans failed to sell at auction yesterday. 46k kms, apparently great condition, not restored. Was given after the film to the actress who played McQueen's love interest on the film; after she died it was sold to a Swiss garage; and then to a swiss racing driver named Jo Siffert. So pretty attractive provenance. Estimated price was $275-385k but attracted no bidders. Early sign of a toppy market?
Good Morning Darius, you must make a test drive on a F575 HGTC, you will be a good surprise ... for sure...! If you don't find in UK, next time that you will come in Italy i'm at disposal ... You could read the old post of "ELSI" about his vicissitudes from his first 575 standard to his actual black HGTC... Best Regards Fabio
That is very kind Fabio. I have seen Elsi (Markus's) 575 HGTC in Switzerland which looks stunning, but not driven it.
Hi Fabio, I know its hard to quantify, but how dramatic really is the difference in feeling and drive between the standard and FHP and HGTC 575? Even though I have modified my suspension (basically by lowering the car and adding camber), its still basically using the components of the standard 575. Its already firmer and drives much better than originally, and perhaps adding the thicker springs and anti-roll bars of the FHP or HGTC pack may be overkill at this point in time, but I'm curious anyway. Hello! I'm looking for a tool kit for my 575M and i found these 2 on ebay. Ferrari 575M Maranello Tool Kit Complete Original with Bag Authentic | eBay Ferrari 575M Maranello Tool Kit Complete Original with Bag Authentic | eBay I just wanted to make sure that those are the real 575 ones. Somebody was trying to sell me a 360 one before. Thanks for the help! Mariano
Clyde- Difficult to completely describe because of the different configurations for 575Ms, all of which will feel different. 1) Early, pre-52556 575Ms with 183960 2) Early, pre-52556 575Ms with updated shock ECUs 3) Early, pre-52556 575Ms with FHP 4) Late, post-52556 575Ms with steering position sensor 5) Late, post-52556 575Ms with FHP 6) Very late, post-55769 575Ms with new shocks, HGTC mounts, shock ECU (US 05 MY) 7) Very late, post-55205 575Ms with HGTC (Euro 04/05, US 05 MY) All of these feel differently and there are mongrels in between with various FHP and HGTC parts and upgraded shock ECUs. Even some HGTC upgrades. Anybody who thinks they drive one 575M and know how they all feel is mistaken.
Such a shame that, was hoping the SA was much more than a "boulavardier", was it the same for the barchetta I wonder?
Graham, it explains why i had a downer on F1 which caused such irritation here. It is because my own 575 experience with F1 was HGTC SA which is a horrid unstable platform. My F1 on my 430 Spider and three 599s was reasonable. As you know I have a late manual 575m FHP RHD now which is fabulous, if slightly analogue (which I like).
Come to think of it Terry, once again you're absolutely right, because in fact my 2002 575 is some type of a mongrel as well. In my 2002 575 SIN 129983, I have the Maranello Skunkworks Steering ECU, and as you may recall I had previously purchased an upgraded Shock ECU but when I went to install it it turned out that my car already had an even newer shock ECU installed, so I sold it. Clyde
Nice precisation Terry. My AN is 56456. I not driven 575 standard, my expeririences are my old 550 and now a factory 575 HGTC, so probably i'm not the correct person for one confront from the various version 575.... But i know very well the big difference of the handling of my two cars, and HGTC handling in comparison to 550 is another planet .... This is not a reason for not buy 550! No! 550, like all Maranello, is great GT, probably the difference between 430 and Scud .... Regards at all
What's your Assembly No. Scraggy? I believe that you mentioned that your car was a late 2003 build but that is when the fabled AN52556 is believed to have appeared...
Sorry but for me your before HGTC SA more probably had problems in F1 gearbox system because the software and hardware (clutch and gearbox) are the same of 575! For my dealer the F1 of my HGTC in few condition work better than 599.... Consider that the gear, syncronyzers of 575,612,599,599GTO arte the same .... Only final conic gears in 575 are 11:43 in the others 11:46.
Fabio - scuttle shake emphasises the shortcomings of the gearbox (which is the same as 612 F1 FYI). Mogul - dont have on me but Terry kindly pointed out it is post 52556, Dec 2003 build Mar 2005 registered.
Thanks very much for the "FYI"... Also if know well this, if you read my message... best regards ... and bye bye ...
I just noticed there is an interesting comment on the 550/575 and many of the topics discussed in this thread, plus some in the separate recent exhaust thread, recently posted by a US 550 owner at the end of my story in GQ on buying my own 550. I can't copy and paste the comment as the copyright is GQ's, here's the link, it's at the bottom. Interesting claims there? I don't know the commenter. Ferrari 550 Maranello investment - GQ.co.uk
Interesting? Perhaps if you are into amateur psychoanalysis! John A. Guthrie on IMDb: Movies, TV, Celebs, and more... - Photo Gallery - IMDb Perhaps he could get his own column on sniffpetrol.com? http://sniffpetrol.com/2015/10/30/roy-lanchester-on-safe-road-design/#.VjzPil94WnM
This morning i had a long speaking about Ferraris, manual gearboxes, F1 gearboxes and about the last DTC with the chief mechanic of my dealer, the guy that help me on my 6-1 headers developing .... Was a very interesting discussion, is a objective guy not of part, that tell the things how are in real .. bad or good. Mor of the people that write law on FC would be denied in their thinking.... I'm happy because my thinking is like the thinking of the chief mechanic of my dealer about the affidability, maintenance cost, problems, time durability and use of the various gearboxes .... I'm glad that you like your gearboxes .... Kind Regards at all Fabio
John Guthrie does not seem to know much about Maranellos, even though he owns one, and his comments on the 575M are just about all old wives' tales. Especially the one on 575M F1 clutches, which use exactly the same clutch as the one on his 550. His comment that his 550 was the first with a tuned exhaust is particularly silly, since numerous aftermarket exhausts were available for the 550 almost from the first day of production. His comments on the WSR suspension and HGTC are also very ill-informed, since he appears to know nothing about FHP and HGTC. If you want to comment on something, you really should know what you are talking about before writing it down.
I see, and that's why we try not to pay attention to "comment hell" under our articles. Took me six weeks to notice it..the whole idea of a magazine for me is that it is edited. But I'm old fashioned like that. The place to comment online is here. Where you're not edited, but you are, um, engaged with..
