It was easy to fudge DOT back in the day. They did not physically inspect the car. Approval was based on a package of pictures and documentation. Just stick the light on, take a pic, and take it back off. At any rate, 3rd brake lights were not required until 86 model year cars.
do you have the vin of this car (private if sensitive?). I have tracked all the red DD in the US so far, just want to make sure I did not miss one!

I'm not sure if anyone else has made this observation but it appears to me that sometime in late 1987 the factory started to use Hella driving lamps as well as the traditionally-used Carellos. There are other images showing this which I'll try and dig up. Image Unavailable, Please Login
