Thinking of these colors, Rosso Fuoco Nuvo Rosso 2007 F1 Rosso Coburn Blu Coburn Blu Corsa Bluelectico Leaning towards Bluelectico with dark blue leather with white stitching or beige with blue stitching with blue carbon. Any pics of the above colors or others would be appreciated. Very excited to spec out a factory with my dealer. Thanks!
I did a factory spec and it was fantastic! So glad I did it. The big advantage is that you can see colours and specs on the line, plus they have all manner of paint swatch boards that really help, plus a few mini models that give an even better idea (such as the one we chose - Rosso Maranello, which is simply beautiful in the flesh). The three colour paints have to be seen with the naked eye and in different lights to be appreciated; they are much darker under dim light but the sunlight picks up different layers and the colour changes to a much brighter and dazzling shade. F1 2007 is the only 4 colour paint I believe and is very nice. My issue with Fuoco and to some degree F1 was that they have quite a lot of orange in them when compared to Rosso Maranello, Rosso Berlinetta and Rosso Coburn (that guy spec'd his own colour and named it - I saw his finished car in the waiting area on my trip and it did look beautiful and quite similar to Rosso Maranello). I think I'll be ordering a 488 of some sort and it will either be one of the blues, possibly Blu Corsa or one of the greys, possibly Canna di Fucile, to lend something different to my garage. Since you're making the effort to go to the factory it's a nice idea to do something small to personalise your car, which they are more than happy to make suggestions for. We did quite a bit of that for various reasons but Anna was on hand to both make sure what we did did not give any resale issues but also make helpful suggestions, most of which I took and all of which turned out great. If you're wondering about Rosso Berlinetta, it is a three layer colour, similar to Maranello, but with a 'foundation' (probably not the right word) in gold rather than silver per Maranello. Maranello is unusual because it is a mica three layer not a metallic. Mica is small spheres in the paint not metal flakes, so the reflections are sharper, finer, more subtle but still clearly there.
Thank you so much for the detail and insight. This really helps me. Can you post up a couple of pictures of your Ferrari? Sounds beautiful.
I've used a Flickr link because I can never post decent enough quality pics here. The pics in the link are taken with five different cameras, an iPhone, a GoPro, a Nikon D800 and a Leica M, plus the factory pic. Different conditions yield different 'colours' and hues from the paint. There is either no editing or minimal editing, mainly for when the auto metering wasn't quite right. The two shots outside the Villa Orselina are interesting - one taken under dull late afternoon rain clouds, the other taken in the same place with sunshine the next morning. Quite a difference I think and both with iPhones from memory. https://flic.kr/s/aHsknQu23x
I thought Blu electrico and Blu Corsa were the same color, just a mixup with names at launch time...no?
No. Blu Elettrico debuted on the 599 SA I believe, and is miles apart from Blu Corsa. It's much darker and clean blue than Blu Corsa. Someone described it as an "Electric blue" but it was never named that. For the OP. Either Blu Elettrico as I'm a huge fan of that particular colour, Rosso Coburn or Rubino Micalizzato. Not a fan of Rosso F1 at all. But to each his own. Here are two pics of Blu Elettrico. Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login
Wow that Rosso Maranello looks outstanding! I've had Fucco 599 and know what you mean about the orange tinge. I've gone for the launch colour of Rosso Corsa Metalica - slightly deeper red than the non- met RC. Going to the factory allows you to see the standard palet of shades quite nicely. I did ask about the Blu Electrico, but was told it could have significant delay on production! It's bad enough already and the wait is killing me! I've already sold my 458, and being pestered (quite nicely) by my local McLaren dealer! Graham
Rosso Maranello which came out in 2012 with the debut of the FF is a spectacular triple layer paint that goes from candy apple red to a lighter burgundy. I also like Rosso Fuoco (fire) which is also a triple layer paint and does have an orange tint to is. Either Maranello or Fuoco are outstanding choices. If you stay with blue do open minded with browns interiors or my favorite is charcoal grey alcantara when paired with blues. At the end of the day, it's your can, and you can't appease everybody on such a personal matter. Good luck with any of you selections! Cheers
Thanks you all for the insight. I just want something that is unique and beautiful. I think you are right. What about beige or another dark brown with blue stitching? Was also thinking of doing normal carbon for interior, or blue carbon. Carbon on outside and carbon engine surrounds. With the forged wheels diamond finish. Blue calipers. Was also thinking of black top like on my 458. We shall see.
Congratulations on your 488 GTB, spectacular car and I'm sure you will have a blast at the factory configuring it. The beauty of going to Maranello is you will get to see so many colors on sample panels and finished cars. With the panels, I would suggest you look at them outside and under various lighting if time permits. I'm a fan of all the colors you recommended. If you are leaning towards blue, Blu Corsa is stunning in person, It has tons of depth and character. I love Rosso Fuoco, it's one of my all-time favorite Ferrari colors, stunning in almost any light, but it does have a sun-burst or orange effect from the base layer, so if you don't like that it might not be for you. All of the tri-layer paints are going to have hues to the color which will come out under different lighting. Of course I am most partial to Rosso Coburn Here are a few pics of it with various lighting conditions. That is a beautiful color. This is going to be hard. Blu Elettrico I am leaning towards with black top, but after seeing your car......
Great thread here! Thanks Lukey, ROMO and Ian for your insight on these colour details, this is sooo interesting.
I would do Rosso Coburn. We chose that color for the stripe on our Aperta and I doubt many people (if any) will have a 488 in Rosso Coburn.
These are all great colors. It would depend, for me, on whether I thought a triple red or blue was best suited for the 488GTB lines and design. I think blue looks great on the 488 and the launch car that made the presentation rounds at the dealers looks amazing.
I think all the colours you list are amazing, but I'm very happy with my Rosso Fuoco 458. It's a difficult paint to photograph properly, my attempts are in this thread in case you haven't seen it: http://www.ferrarichat.com/forum/458-italia-488/451600-my-fuoco-italia-warning-picture-heavy.html
