It's funny if you read the early posts in this thread from 2011. Lots of skepticism about increasing prices back then.

Scuderia09 you're still as crazy as before. Read the above quote, you said Scuderia prices would hit 250k by Summer 2013, not 198k ;)

And then your arch nemesis said Scuderias will never ever see the $250k mark ever again ;)

I guess both of you were wrong!

Actually, the prices of the 360CS have been going up year after year, so it was a little bit logical, that the Scud prices will follow the same path. But how high will they go? I guess we should wait and see.

Your post was dated 2012, meaning when you said "next summer" it would've meant 2013. "Last summer" from today's date is 2014. lol. So ya, you're still crazy.

You guys are forgetting inflation. Something that cost you $1000 in 2007 would now cost $1147. What you guys are talking about isn't true appreciation its inflation. Inflation Calculator | Find US Dollar's Value from 1913-2015

In 2010/11 when I bought my 2009 Scuderia I paid $204. Factoring in inflation the same car would cost around $216-220. About where real selling prices are.

    Cars aren't appreciating.

Don't get my wrong. Its epic that they are keeping up with inflation. Any modern car that does that is a keeper.

Except they are. The prices over the past two years have spiked considerably for the scud, and several other Ferrari models, as well as many other collectible sports cars (older 911s, etc.).

I bought my scud two years ago on Halloween. Back then, the average asking price for a scud was $182,000. I haven't calculated the average lately, but it's much higher than that. These are facts.

Its not appreciation unless it is above the inflation rate.

Ex: In most of the US homes increase in cost by 2-3% per year. Many believe this is 'appreciation'. In all reality its not appreciation its just inflation. VS if the home increased in cost by greater than 2-3% the argument could be made for real appreciation.

Same with cars. Yes, some cars have truly appreciated. You correctly mentioned early 911s (tho, that market has flat lined). Scuderias are increasing in cost but, not really appreciating based in inflation rates.

My 1989 911 Speedster with 4k on the odo is truly appreciating...at least over the last 24 months. All the years before the Speedster was flat. Rarely are cars good financial investments. Trust me, I wish that weren't the case...I own 9.

Dave, you probably were a smart buyer and bought well

Look at my 09 Scud as previously mentioned. What is that worth today in the eyes of a real buyer based on the real market? Not an overly optimistic asking price, but a real out the door done deal price. In 2011 the car cost $204. Factoring in the inflation rate the car would be worth close to $220k. Almost exactly where the market is for these cars.

Don't feel bad guys...this is way better vs my 2013 458 Spider that is losing value...

You obviously haven't been closely monitoring scud prices as many of us have. If the average price is now around $220K as you said, that's a 20% increase in two years. I really hope we're not in an economy in which inflation is 10% (we're not).

By the way, when you bought your scud in 2011 it was still depreciating. We didn't reach bottom until years after that, and we've popped up from it. You can't look at a 2011 data point and a 2015 data point and make any assumption as to what prices were doing between those years.
