Not literally but...the Cali, 488, AMGs, M5, M6, McLarens, various Porsches, and soon more Ferraris, Masers, Lambos etc all have a TT V8. They offer massive torque everywhere, linear acceleration, fantastic economy for their power, and need help to sound great and never offer a crescendo to the redline like some engines we know. But will these engines have their own character? I bet in five years as they develop more, nobody will really be able to tell the difference between them all. Just all hi tech amazingly efficient TT V8s. No individual marque character. Ferrari included.

    I hope I'm wrong but am I?

There's a lot of things that determines how a car sounds, even though they are all TT. The fact that few use a flat plane crank in their V8, sets Ferrari apart from most. Then there's firing order, number of valves, turbine design, cam design, intake shape, compression and so forth. Cars will sound different in the future, but not necessarily worse, and you can be pretty sure that most exotic brands will want to create a signature sound.

Really interesting article Jon, thank you. Who would know the Economist would go into tech detail many motoring publications have failed to. Just trying to get my head around it (as a non tech)

As to my original point, just drove a 488 and 430 back to back. No question which is the "better" car, but engine wise, meh. Uniformity here we come. Just wait till they're all hybrids or electric or fuel cell.
