There is whisker in pace between the Mercs..Nico is riding without the pressure of winning the WDC crown, he wants 2nd, Hamilton still has a fierce desire to win, Merc top brass want to make sure Nico fends of Vettel into 3rd place in the WDC, so the strategy sticks, no use in risking overtaking maneuvers.
Gotta beg to differ there Steve - I think it's one of the better ones from an overtaking perspective - Into turn one & then two if squeezed often works! Then 7-8 (?) is pretty good too. You really need good power, but I really don't want to hear any Merc drivers whining about any lack of power!.... They've all had 30-50 horses more than the other guys all year.
Dear gawd... do we still have one more race to endure? Forcing people to watch these races would be considered torture.
Today's race was about locking-in second place for Nico in the drivers championship. Merc's top brass felt that goal was more important to the team than giving Hamilton a choice of strategies to go for the win. Hamiltion winning today would do nothing for Merc at this point, Nico winning gives Merc second place in the Drivers Championship and that is what the team was after today. It didn't matter if Hamiltion was faster half way into the race, today we saw Merc's top brass do their job and finish the season for Nico. The question is .... will both racers be allowed to race on Nov 29th? Now that all the titles have been settled?
Not if you choose not to watch it........ Please don't let the door hit you on the ass on the way out. Cheers, Ian
Sorry Mr. Ian. It's supposed to be "entertaining". If you think this was entertaining today, then I suggest you turn on the Gardening channel and watch grass grow. F1 is SICK. If they don't fix it, a lot of people will be walking out that door you like to hold open.
Yes pretty much as I said. Good question, it will be interesting to see whether Hamilton or Nico wins, with the pressure off both of them.
I said this the day Hamilton won the title Merc will find a way to let Nico win ever one of the last three races. It's completely contrived. Last time it was forcing Hamilton to pit on tires he thought were still good. Today it was to control his race pace with the same strategy -- not even trying. Nico simply cruised home on his own race pace knowing Hamilton would not be allowed to challenge. This is racing?
I hear you. But I'd like to think not totally 100% contrived, however Merc would be the laughing stock of the paddock, if they let there 2 drivers self destruct each other. Maybe that is why Hamilton is kicking off about calling the shots on his own strategy.
That's true, but he didn't pass anyone who was driving the same car he was. And, although his car has a poor top end it's undoubtedly one of the best in the corners.
When you keep throwing all the money at the teams that have all the money, you expect different results?
Nah!...... Was it 'exciting'? No, of course not. We pretty much knew the grid, and thence the outcome on Friday. But again, if we look back we see many more seasons turning out this way than any down to the wire, last lap heroics. Doff the cap to Merc and do a better job! As for"entertainment', sure it wasn't the best, but how many truly entertaining races do we get each year? 2?, maybe 3 or 4 if we're *really* fortunate? Is it, really? It's all cyclical, Mercs day will pass - hopefully sooner than later, but is F1 really on its death bed? I'm not so sure.
I watch every race because i'm a lifer, week in and week out. But its getting pretty bad. The season is basically over and the WDC and WCC are already decided. This race was a snooze fest again. Verstappen again makes it entertaining to watch. Next year PLEASE be different.
Sorry you're just wrong. It doesn't have to be this way. What F1 needs to do is stop paying so much attention to politics and money and start paying more attention to the FANS by delivering them a better product. The rich get richer. Where are today's Ken Tyrrel's? They simply don't exist because they can't exist.
That's a dead certainty. But we may have to put up with 5 years of Mercedes domination, and not much else. That's why the idea of 3-car teams is interesting. There would be more in-fighting in the team!
