just a guess on my part.
I have heard that Ferrari includes the air ram effect to calculate hp, not sure the other two manufacturers do...I wonder if someone like Mr. Bailey could get each of his cars tested for hp...harder to do when you have to include 3 power sources on 918.
Supercar Driver, like Top Gear and Evo, are very much UK biased, and thus it makes sense to show the McLaren in the lead the whole race when in fact the 918 lead most of the way in the race where LaFerrari and McLaren didn't jump the start. Hypercar 5 part 3 is out, and the P1 didn't win, just as it didn't win at Laguna Seca. Its interesting that in these two comparisons, they were not held in UK...just sayin'
In the Supercar driver video Laf was in race mode To use launch control it has to be in ct off mode Maybe half a second difference there
That is what I figured. Seems difficult to trick people when the tests are so consistently in favor of the 918 (and amplified by Porsche's history of being extremely transparent and dare I say modest in terms of how they tout performance capabilities). Reminds me of an old top gear (I think? maybe 5th gear) where they ran a Veyron vs. a McLaren F1...
We did about an hr of test runs before the filming started, both the P1 and Lafa were in the optimum modes for the test...same as 918
I Would agree with this, despite the data that can not lie, they showed the vid from the jumped start test, why not show the vids from the other 6 runs, we all had several Go pros on our cars, drone was up......
This was fantastically made. I can't believe this is free for our enjoyment. They are all so evenly matched even in acceleration it's unbelievable. Chris is partial to the Mclaren but to each their own. I think this is a fantastic video.
To be fair to LaFerrari, it was a close race on similar tyres... But it was evident it was the twitchiest of the three, closer to the absolute limit. By comparison, especially 918, was very clean and precise. And P1 was fastest, though... it bottoms out on the track in track mode, damaging the underside... not sure that is desirable in a 1+ million car.
I'm not home for a week and have slow internet. Can anyone post the laptimes from the 2 new tests? Thanks!
McLaren P1 1:51.78 trofeo r McLaren P1 1:53.57 corsa Porsche 918 1:53.98 cup 2 LaFerrari 1:54.25 corsa gotta give them props they got blind corsa's from Pirelli for laf and P1.
This is really puzzling. Each test ends up with differing results, pretty close at that though. They seem to be evenly matched after all.
Haven't seen any Porsche techs in this video, nor telemetry or porsche test driver inputs to improve on times (Harris also mentiones it)... and Ferrari had a team on the track several days prior to setup the car.
That was the most amusing part of the test. Porsche had one guy seen in video once. McLaren had team of people. Ferrari also had team of people with them. Plus Ferrari sent chief test driver Simoni to make sure Chris was driving on the limit and two weeks prior to test Simoni/Ferrari were out there testing LaFerrari at Portimao lol.
yeah, but what is factory support? I can clearly see multiple ferrari and mclaren techs, and both teams had telemetry... porsche didn't have telemetry(as said by Harris himsels), nor did I notice an army of porsche factory technicians or test drivers, which leads me to believe that porsche factory support was, mostly, giving the car for the test, and picking it back
Perhaps it was spiked to begin with. Pulling your leg mate. See my drift there? All I am saying is that since factory support is required, it's up to them to decide the level of involvement. Most importantly though, a few shots don't really tell the truth.
