Fred Finn, known as the world’s most traveled man with 15 million miles covering 139 countries, had a Countach Downdraft. He owns the record for making the most number of flights on Concorde (718), including a seat on the very first Concorde flight, as well as on the last. His DD was replaced some time later by a Mc Laren F1 Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login
Looks like Fred Finn had put on some weight between the DD and the F1 Too many nibbles on Concorde. Joe, the Hard Rock picture is fab. There is no way you would want to drive in central London nowadays. It's a very large parking zone. Unless you want to do it at 04:00, would wake a few people up in that respect. I know a few of the Ferrari chaps who organise a London run. To me, I see no point. The car sits getting hot. Each to their own. This is a great thread and your collection of pictures is outstanding. Yes, that's right, not only is it a well-known QV, it has been immaculately maintained from new! Ive known this QV since the day it was delivered, My good friend & neighbor Khalid M took delivery of this Downdraft when I had my first Countach (an LP500S 12515), and his car was the reason I got a DD a year later. Here it is when nearly-new (1987) with its original registration E 731 KYL, at Portman Lamborghini's West London service center, with its distinctive Rosso/Bianco livery. Note this car was delivered with a wing. Image Unavailable, Please Login
More recently it was used in CAR magazine's 50th Anniversary celebrations, in a piece with a Mc Laren F1 and Ferrari 250 GTO as posted earlier in this thread. Image Unavailable, Please Login
Perhaps this was introduced for 1986 USA cars, and then went worldwide for 1987 onwards. This is typical of small factories, once they develop something for one variant or demographic of car, you soon thereafter see it appearing on all the cars.
You probably already know this but I should have mentioned that this DD registered E 482 NUL is HLA12065. I think this image belongs to this car (or the other Rosso/Bianco one UK-registered C 701 BYX). Image Unavailable, Please Login
Yes, Fred said he liked nothing better than a good meal on Concorde! Considering he took 718 flights... Those were the London days, we drove our Countachs freely in London, some of us in those images, myself, Khalid, Peter, Steve, Vic, Greg, Stefan and one or two others, there were 6 or 7 that would routinely meet up for drives, no planning whatsoever, purely impromptu adventures. We also drove to places like Goodwood where I tracked the DD several times on the circuit in the days before Lord March refurbished it. Here below are the Magnificent 7 at the old Goodwood. And here we are on the Goodwood grid about to have a gentle 'race' around. I'm the red DD behind the pole-position car, on the pole in the red car is no less than Stefan Ratel of FIA BPR racing fame. I can't believe that was 25 years ago!! Image Unavailable, Please Login
Here I am caning it around Goodwood, lamps ablaze (1990). I found the car to be well-balanced around the track with lots of power, but it got tricky at St Mary's corner... Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login
Here are 3 DD red arrows, leaving Goodwood many many laps later! Note to self: on Monday morning order new Pirelli P7 tires Image Unavailable, Please Login
I'd say, at last we found a use for the wing after so many years. Talking of the Concorde: http://www.countach.ch/LCCG/Hall_2012/Hall%20(3).JPG Order new tires after a trackday, could never imagine such... http://www.countach.ch/anneau_2005.html

Wow, how Goodwood has changed since 1990. The pit / start and finish area is completely different. As is the entire site. I love the Revival meeting there and go often. I may get along to the Members Meeting in March of next year. Bit of a lottery concerning the weather, but will make for more exciting racing. Joe, the shots for the Countach "GTO", was that a staged shot? Looks like it to me, but I could be wrong. I have to say, that driving in the UK has gotten progressively terrible. The traffic in the South East is horrendous. In the last 10 years, the populous has grown by +5 million, all of which must have cars! Hard to get out and stretch madams legs. And when you do, there are speed cameras everywhere. I need to move to Germany and commute via the Autobahn. Loving the period pictures and Raymond, your track day link is pretty awesome. The state of the tyre! Sure a great time had. R
Thanks for sharing all those photos, Joe! The owner talked me through some of the issues to keep in mind when keeping a car like that pristine, such as washing behind the rear number plate holder!
